Okay this may seem a strange question. So I'm going over to Japan for 3 and a bit weeks in the near future, of which 3 weeks will be staying with a host family. Now I'm planning on getting a new pair of shoes for when I go over (some of mine are tatty to say the least) and was thinking if I should get a pair that are easy to slip on and off. My question is this. In Japan are most of their shoes standard lace ups like we have in Europe/North American or do they go for alternatives that are more easily taken on and off as necessary such as velcro, elastic or the like?

All varieties are available.

The more pertinent question is one of shoe size. Anything larger than a 27.5 (for males, anyway) and you're into serious Treasure Hunt mode.
