I am stuck here in the middle of tokyo moneyless!! My parents told me they have sent me some money , but through the bank , it would take two days to arrive.

Just the best time for my train ticket to expire , and I couldn't go to school today since I couldn't afford the train tickets ,I don't know what to do .. too scared ..

So , does anyone know of a way for money to be sent from outside Japan , and arrive faster ?? like in a day , an hour , a minute ??! Oh please anyone ..?

I got 4 words for you (your parents actually).

International Postal Money Order. It is *THE* fastest way to send money (w/o paying like $35 on each side). They can get them at the post office, and only cost $3.50.

I just realized what you read. Okay, scratch that:

If you're really in a pinch, your parents can probably wire me some money cheaply and immediately (or even Paypal if they have that) and I can transmit money to you. I still have a Japanese internet bank account I use to buy stuff online, so if you have a UFJ, Mizuho, etc Japanese account, I could fire it over to you instantly, assuming it it's not past 15:00 in Japan, which it is in about 35 minutes. Yeah, you'd have to trust a stranger... but is about as fast as it can happen.

No shame in being in your situation.. was there many times myself.

It's not something you subscribe to. It's something you purchase at a post office and then mail to the recipient, who cashes it at a post office. It's sort of like a cashier's check.

More important than school.....Are you going to be able to eat until the bank transfer arrives?

If you had a citibank account you could just get your parents to put money in there and then you can withdraw the money straight away from Japan. That's what I do, I have an Australian bank account and if I need money I just get my parents to put it into my Australian bank account and then I withdraw it from an international ATM here, but I do have to pay something like 1.5% conversion fee or something, much cheaper than what Japanese banks would charge you.

Anyways, the Citibank thing is an option, although it can be kind of tricky. They're in deep crap at the moment w/ the law, so they might be putting restrictions on things like that. Americans have to open special accounts there... presumably for things like transferring money from one place to another.

I do think however there is some type of charge. You know what the best thing for your parents to do? Activate a Visa Debit Card and mail it to you EMS and have you use that for emergencies. The fee is like 200 yen (a normal fee) and the rate isn't too bad.

There are international bank machines at the post office. The way I get money is my mom got out a bank card for international machines, and she wires money into it. Its instant, so I dont have to wait a couple days or anything.

That is true, but it didn't sound like Suki-yaki was in a place where ATM were flooding the place!! (this conclusion is based on the problems Suki-yaki is facing now)

Thanks to everyone and especially MikeCash san for your support. Today my troubles were finally over ..

I would like to story out what happened with me , it's kinda interesting , I think.

seeing that I really wanted to go to school the other day , and MikeCash san's funds couldn't have arrived before 8 o'clock , I just had to think out a solution.

Even though I live in a ryou (dormitory) and am surrounded with people . I don't know why it was difficult as hell asking someone for money.Especially that I've been turned down by one of my friends , I lost any nerve to ask again.
So I ran up to the ATM machines at the eki hoping that my family's funds did arrive. Just to discover they were closed ! It seems , they don't open till 8 am.
back on my way home desperately I met the dormitory manager at the entrance. He asks me why I'm back and I tell him "I need some money but the ATM machines are closed"
He then offers me money!!
I take a sen en (1000 yes), just so easily , and tell him I will give it back once I'm back from school (like I'll have it then anyways ..)

Holding my future between my hands (no acualy in my wallet) I march quickly up to the eki , buy my ticket , and on to school!!

At school I couldn't really concentrate being so hungry. But my attendance itself was really important.

Then the wierdest thing is , we play a game which is (junkenpu!) but the rule was , looser gives winner 10 en .
Everyone has to play , so i take out a 10 en and think "Just what I need , wasting money.."
I throw in my first (Junkenpuu!!) And to my surprize ,I win ^^!
I continuesly do that with different persons , and wierdly enough , I kept winning!

The 10 ens kept flooding. By the end of the game I collected 110 en. This is the first time I acually "earn" something. It made me so happy.

The rest of the day I tried to keep out of the site of the dormitory manager , as with my 110 en ,I marched to the 100 en shop and bought myself a nice big chocolate bar!! mmm .. Nothing has ever been more delicious..

they say 100 en , but it costed me 105 en. As for the last 5 en ,I'm keeping them as a souvinire .

The next day , I finally cofirmed recieving the money. I confess there were times where I became weak , cried myself to sleep But i am glad that i got over it , didn't give up easily , and , had loads of luck ^^!
