Game maker Sega Corp. said Tuesday it will merge with pachinko machine maker Sammy Corp. on Oct. 1, thereby creating the nation's largest video game maker.
The new company, with combined revenue of more than 440 billion yen, will eclipse Konami Corp. by some 170 billion yen.

The surprise announcement came a year after the two companies walked away from a merger plan due to strong opposition from Sega game creators.

But this time, both parties promised a happy ending.

I don't know, I'm quite worried about that. Yu Suzuki's AM2 is responsible for the Shenmue series, right? From what I understand, AM2 is going to be re-ntegrated into Sega to make more mainstream titles. Wether that fact holds any water is up in the air for anyone to guess at, but I know that it would be rather disappointing not to be able to finish that damned story.

The merger is a good thing and a bad thing, depending on how you look at it.

At least I found my DC copy of Shenmue 2 last night.

Peace.
