Question Scroll text with smoking players

Please translate the scroll text with these smoking players.
It was given as painted by〈Yoshimura Horyu〉吉村 鳳柳（よしむら ほうりゅう） （1874～195？）?
The upper seal says Y K after all... What about the other seal?
On the reverse it seems to say differently....

It is from Kiyama Yoshitaka 木山義喬

The text is maybe 下手に考え、眠りに如かず

Some one behind the smoker is not playing - and sleeping indeed...

Reverse side says 碁打(記念品). Google says Playing Go (souvenir).
If that is correct how should souvenir have to be interpreted?

Yes, its correct. It just means it was given as a gift to someone on some special occasion.

The first picture text is "下手な考え 眠るに如かず".

下手(へた)な考(かんが)え 眠(ねむ)るに如(し)かず

It means "While your opponent is overthinking, there's nothing else to do but sleep".

This phrase is used sarcastically to describe someone who thinks too long at Go or Shogi.

The picture scrolls depict person who is lost in thought for long periods of time, person smoking cigarettes to calm his frustration from having to wait, and person who have fallen asleep because he have been waiting too long.

This phrase is a slight variation of a famous proverb. The original proverb is "下手な考え 休むに似たり" and means "A poor thinker is like a sleeping one".


The second picture text is "碁打(記念品)木山の筆".

碁打 is "Go player(or Playing Go)".
記念品 is "Souvenir".
木山の筆 is "The writer(or painter) is Kiyama".

This scroll was given as a souvenir. But I don't know what the souvenir is. Maybe it's a Go tournament, maybe not.

The author, Kiyama Yoshitaka, first worked in the United States, and after returning to Japan he worked in his hometown of Neu, Hino District, Tottori Prefecture.

Kiyama's birthplace is in the mountains, but it is close to the city of Sakaiminato, which has been a popular place for the game of Go since ancient times, and this may have been the reason why Kiyama chose to paint pictures of Go.

As for the model for the painting, I don't think it's a famous shogi player. There are two reasons for this.

1. Sakaiminato is a small town in a much more rural area than Tokyo or Osaka, and it is unlikely that famous Go players would visit it.

2. "下手な考え 眠るに如かず" is a sarcastic expression that expresses the idea that no matter how long you think about it, you will never come up with a good idea. It is a very rude expression to use for famous Go players.

There were many people who enjoyed playing Go in Sakaiminato, which means it would have been easy to find a model, so the model for the painting was likely a resident of Sakaiminato who enjoyed playing Go.

It's just a possibility, and it might not be true.
