Scholarships to study in Japan, questions ...

Hi, I am 16 at the moment but want to study in Japan! Now I was just thinking about scholarships but I don't really know a lot about them so here are some questions I would love if you guys could answer . . .
How do scholarships work?
- DO you just apply and get accepted/rejected
What exactly are they?
for example, I would like to study Medicine once I am in Uni (in England) but could I also study Medicine in Japan without leaving my British Uni?
And what is the shortest stay? eg. 6months? a year? 2?

Shortest stay I would even consider is a year, everyone who leaves in 6 months either 1. Had just gotten used to things and regrets leaving after such a short time. 2. Wasn't ready for Japan and couldn't handle any more thus, quickly went back home.

Medical huh? Let's see. It depends on when you want to study. There are rotary scholarships you might be able to check into, and then of course there is the study abroad department at the college you would attend (this is by far the best source of information you'd have close to you I'm sure). It depends what you want to do, and why. If you just say "I want to study abroad" without giving a reason how it will help, or how you can give to others, don't count on going though.

One thing about major scholarships: application deadlines can be over a year in advance of actually beginning your study, so make sure to be prepared EARLY.

Although I think it's great that you two are trying to be helpful....it has been 8 months since the OP was posted. I hope she peeks around again and reads your advice!
