I wasn't sure where else to put this, but I have been watching Sasuke / Ninja Warrior on Challenge TV for quite some time now.

Who else agrees that Nagano Makoto is a God?

A True Test of Physical Ability

I only started watching Sasuke (Ninja Warrior) about a month ago when I accidently came across it while surfing TV and was captivated immediately and have been a fan ever since. I had no idea that it has been on for about 10 years already in Japan and for about 2 years here in the US.

Luckily, it is becoming so popular here in the US that the G4 network has been running marathons of all 17 events with the next few to come up shortly.

It is the best test of strength, skill, endurance and perseverance I have ever seen and to date, out of 1900 competitors and nearly 10 years, only two have made it to the top of Midoryama to claim the title of Sasuke.

During the marathons it was nice to see the same people coming back time and time again only to fail, but they never gave up and I highly respect them for that as it would have been so easy to give up after a year or two or more and give in to defeat.

Of the two people who have made it to the top only one video is available and that is of fisherman Makoto Nagano my new hero and has garnered my utmost respect. At 5'3" and 135 lbs he is the epitomy of a never give up attitude and he has a chiseled body that anyone would be envious of. Check out this video of him completing all 4 events to become the latest to claim victory on a course that had defeated 1,698 people previously. If this isn't a true test of strength and endurance I don't know what is.

Another participant who has garnered my utmost respect is Shingo Yamamoto who has never missed a single tournament, but has yet to reach the summit of Midoriyama. In all I guess you could say all the veterans of the competition have my respect as they have never given up.

I don't see how anyone could make it through this newly redesigned course, but I'm sure one will eventually and I'll be watching and rooting them on.

i love Ninja Warrior i got into it by my girlfirnd (she's a big fan) just finished watching part 1 of Sasuke 18...the new course looks soo much harder

Yeah I DVR'd part 1 of Sasuke 18 last night and will watch them on the weekend all at once. It does look harder that's for sure. From the previews on G4, it seems that out of the first 40 competitors only one made it and that was the fireman with 3% body fat. I wonder why they did away with the rolling log, the jump hang and the warped wall? They seemed to beat even the best at one time or another.

They upped the prize money to 4 million yen (about $40,000), but I have a feeling the veterans are not in it for the money now. To them it is a personal challenge.

How many years do you think it will take for another to conquer Midoriyama? When Makoto Nagano did it in Sasuke 17 I think it was something like 6 or 7 years since the first.

The new course does look ridiculous, but some of the All Stars will get used to it eventually. I think Makoto Nagano will do it again and I think Shunsuke Nagasaki has a good chance of completing it some time. Maybe in about 3 of 4 years time? I'm not sure.

i think Shunsuke Nagasaki can beat it....i know they were saying something about Makoto Nagano's age becoming an obstacle

Yeah, I don't think it is to be honest. He's so healthy and trains so much. I do think Shunsuke will win next, if not Makoto again. Maybe Bunpei Shiratori too... not too sure. It's a shame about Kazuhiko Akiyama and his bad eyesight. What annoys me about the English version is that it makes out as if his eyesight got bad after he won, but it's always been like that. What changed was the course. It began to require more depth perception which is why he has been failing on obstacles like the Jump Hang.

Wait until you see Sasuske 21-- interesting

I was surprised that Bunpei Shiratori did not participate in the last tournament. I hope he is better and participated in 21. What surprised me the most was that the American, Levi, was the only participant to make it to round 3 and that Makoto wiped out in the first event of round 2. Disappointing! Even though Levi failed he did great I believe. I hope he was in it again.

Please do not tell the results! I am awaiting the Sasuke 21 dvd that my mother-in-law recorded. I will not view this thread again until I have viewed Sasuke 21 as I don't want to know the outcome ahead of time. I hope it is as interesting as you say!.

Don't worry, I won't tell any results. I've read that G4 (American network) will be showing it in November.

If you search Sasuke 21 using your favorite search engine, you'll find pictures, discussions and clips.

I'm sad that none of the Sasuke's after Makoto Nagano won (sasuke 17?) appear to be shown in England. You can get some of them on youtube but it isn't the same atmosphere as watching it on the TV. It doesn't have as much detail and the suspense is ruined. Does anybody else share this view?

Ninja Warrior has to be the greatest show from japan. I would like nothing better than try my luck at it. To everyones' great joy I would be the greatest wipeout of all time! Head first into the water and stuck like a lawndart.

And yes, Nagano Makoto is a god of Ninja Warrior!

Ninja Warrior/Sasuke

Makoto Nagano is amazing. I have been a fan of this show for some years. They are showing Sasuke 21 tonight in my area. It is a 4 hour marathon. I have my dvd recorder set. They had a really good quaility tape of Nagano on youtube showing the outcome, but TBS-Tokyo Broadcasting system shut it down. It was from JetTv a Japanese station.
I won't give it away incase someone hasn't seen it, but he is just so great.
I met Makoto when he came to Florida. He was very sweet to everyone. People just wanted to hug him. The interpretor wasn't really that good. She didn't know what Sasuke was, so some of her translations were a little weird.
If my Japanese were better I could of helped out. My understanding is much better. I guess that is one of the problems with interpreting for someone, you need to NOT put your spin on what was said. You need to learn to translate in the same manner. I know this is hard because body language is important too. I only met him in line on the last day he was there, he was going to Vegas. He is a regular guy. Very handsome, & sweet. I think he was overwhelmed that Americans were really into the show & loved him.
