I wonder how many of these terms--if any at all--appear on the JLPT.

I looked at those entries. So 3-6 is soft, 7 and up is hard. Interesting. Back in the midwest of US, my parents always had a water softener built into the house plumbing (made it too 'soft', IMO, but that's not important here).

Is there some site somewhere that offers general soft/hardness levels for the tap water in different areas or cities around japan?
