Ritsumeikan

Hello Hello, first post on these forums, so nice to meet you

I was wondering if there are any people in here who know or are/have been in Ritsumeikan university, it's in Kyoto , Japan

Seeing as I probably will be studying there for half a year in 2010 as part of my study (International Business and Management), it would be nice to see if anyone who knows it could tell me more about it and what I could expect. For example how are the students, would it be nice to join one of the clubs, how is the nightlife etc. etc.
Or if no-one has an answer how is the city of Kyoto to study in ?

Hope some people can give me an answer

I'd like to second this request for information regarding Ritsumeikan. I'll be studying abroad there in 2010 as well.

Eehh, actually it was their rival school, Doshisha.

So, I don't know much about Ritsumeikan aside from Doshisha always played them twice a year in baseball. I'm pretty sure it's located up on the hill in northern Kyoto, around where Ryôanji and Ninnaji and Kinkakuji are, so it's a nice area of town. From what I saw that area is sort of laid back and a traditional tourist destination (if you couldn't guess from the three temples I named). It seems there are a few campuses, though. You may want to check on which one you're going to. The Kinugasa campus is the one I was thinking of. I was closer to Sanjô and Shijô, though, which are where the nightlife is.

That's the nightlife of Kyoto, not Doshisha or Ritsumeikan, by the way. It seems like most students end up down there anyway, as it's where a lot of the shopping and big karaoke parlors and izakaya and bars and clubs are. Of course a lot of times when the weather was nice and on the warmer side we would just head down to Sanjô-Ôhashi and find a spot by the river and drink, hang out, and enjoy some of the impromptu performances that pop up down there. It's a pretty cool atmosphere.

Overall I loved Kyoto. I'd love to go back. I had some really good times there, and met some cool people. And I think I even got to see the filming of 窶｢窶倪?ｹW窶堙債〜窶堙ｱ from across the river, but it was hard to tell because I was kind of far away. I do know that there were lots of lights and I'm pretty sure a woman dressed as a 窶｢窶倪?ｹW walking by the river in our usual hang-out spot. It forced us to find some place else to hang out. Oh well...

Anyway, I don't know how much Japanese you can read, but if it's pretty good, you can check out Wikipedia's page on 窶板ｧ窶督ｽﾅ?ﾃ兌/url]. Hope that helps (I know I rambled a bit there...).

Depends on what you want Caster51. APU is actually a newer university with a lot of international focus, while Ritsumeiken University is separate, and more traditional.

My advice is to start a new thread if you can't refer to a specific point mentioned already here, even if it was long ago. Referring to something here at least keeps readers in the thread instead of having to search for it. There seem to be 3 other threads related to Ritsumeikan, though, so a new one might be more in order.

Hello Glenski! Have you applied via Monbukagakusho as well in Ritsumeikan?
