Return The Forum To It's Former Glory !!

After being away from the Forum for a few weeks, I gave a lot of thought to what made it so important in my life. There are probably millions of forums on the internet, but ours seems to be real special. Now I know great members and admin staff help, but I think something else made it "GREAT". I really believe the "CHAT ROOM" was the reason it became so special to me. About a year back, when the Forum was at an all time busy level with tons of interesting posts, the chat room was heavily used. We members would spend hours talking(chatting) with each other. You felt like fellow members were part of your life. I felt closer to many members then I do my own family; cared deeply about them. I tried to spend 1 hour or more in chat every day, getting to know people really well. We would come up with ideas for interesting posts quite often while in chat. Many of us couldn't wait to get home from work or school, so we could "chat it up" on our "Big Happy Family" Forum.
SOOOO, admin, please shop around for a good chat room so we can return to the "good ol days" !! AND , members, when we get the NEW chat room, LET'S MAKE USE OF IT !!! After you read the posts and get caught up on things, go to the chat room and hang a bit. Try to get to know new members and make them feel at home here.
Chat is so great to get to know about your fellow members and the country they live in. Take the time to use it and you will make the Forum a MUCH better place.
Please admin, get us a new "user friendly" chat room!

I Sure Hope......

our new members get to enjoy some of the fun we used to have back then. We usually had at least 25 members in the chat room each & every day at different times. We got to know each other SOOO well. Admin usually comes through when we need something; I'm sure they are taking their time to find us a new chat room that has no time delays or lock-ups like the crappy last one we had with VB2 or whatever that horror was. Lets cross our fingers we get a new chat for Xmas !!

Let's all try to make an effort to use chat when we get a new version back. There's nothing better then spending time getting to know other members. I'd much rather chat with people from all over the world then watch boring TV re-runs!

Ah, there were some great memories back in the day on the chat room! I still think we should have a reunion of all the old regulars. Maybe Joan might make a return

A program like vbxirc could be used for web-based chatters (it uses java to connect to the server). Those of us with our own irc programs (mirc, xchat, miranda, trillian, IRCle, etc...) would be able to connect to the same chat room. IRC is basic and practically universal as a real-time chatting standard.

I recommend a server on irc.shadowfire.org-- good uptime and reliability, and not heavily trafficked by nutcases like the larger servers.

I agree totally. Although I seldomly chatted in the chat room, I always enjoyed it whenever I did enter the chat room (mostly on holidays when I was up late due to the different time zones of the chatters here).
I also liked the old times.....

I hope I get to chat again with some of you soon...otherwise, there is msn messenger..

I'm new here, and I'm not sure who is responsible for the implementation of site features.

I am when not playing in forums paid lots of money by companies as a 'web strategy consultant' though, and have a lot of experience with coming up with and implementing chat rooms as well as other interactive features on websites.

If there is a problem with getting a chat room solution that fits the sites needs or whoever is responible wants some suggestions, or just a chat about it (obviously without being charged), then please feel free to pm/email/whatever me.

So Far.....

this new chat seems great. Now if we could only keep it busy 24 hours a day with members getting to know each other. Under the info section, there was a mention of web cams & mics, would be neat if we could use the chat like SKYPE someday. Instead of PM'ing back & forth with a friend, you can have a private chat room with a password that will allow you faster replys.

Have now noticed the chat link up at the top there, and gone to check it out.
