Konbanwa omai-tachi,

Do you guys know if Buddhist priests (or Shinto priests, for that matter) were ridiculed during the American occupation of Japan by the American soldiers? You know - made fun of, or laughed at, or even paraded through the streets and humiliated? Okay, that last one may be extreme, but in all reality, were they publicly laughed at and ridiculed?

I seriously doubt that. Why would American GIs do that. Because they dress funny? Then the GIs would have made fun of Geishas.

Shinto and Buddhist priests, for lack of a better expression, don't get out much. They pretty much stay in the temples/shrines. They certainly wouldn't have gone to places where GIs were hanging out getting drunk.

I Believe......

GI'S were under very strick orders about behaving! Even in the early 70's when I was there , they brass read us the riot act about acting like idiots. Trouble was, after a few drinks, many forgot the rules.
