Quit MEXT scholarship

Hi minna san

I have been studying in Japan for 10 months now (I got the MEXT scholarship in 2011)
Due to some circumstances i have to quit and go back to my country

Does anyone know the right procedure for that?
What are the steps to follow??
Do i have to pay anything ??
I can stay for 2 years at maximum , can i change my scholarship from PhD to a researcher ??

I feel sad for you that you have to quit your scholarship.

As far as I know, you can of course quit, but you should ask your kyoumuka the proper procedures.

And one more thing I know is, for undergrad scholars they can actually take a 1 year leave and still come back with their scholarship. I personally know someone who went home for a time. I don't know about us in grad school.

I have a very similar question,
I m in Japan on a one year MEXT scholarship. i ve been here since september, but due to a grave illness in my family i was asked if i could return home.
Does anyone have a similar experience? are we allowed to return?
would i have to return my scholarship?

I dont really want to quit the program, but i have only one family T_T

These are probably the kinds of questions you should be asking the people in charge of your program. My program does allow students to take a few months leave and return with their MEXT scholarship where they left off. This is MY program however, so yours may be different. In terms of the red tape, however, it seems possible to suspend your scholarship for a period of time. But again, ask the people in charge of you.
