Hi all,

I'm currently working through Genki 2 (page 113) revising ~といいですね and its variants. In this revision section, there are three different phrases to which the answers are supposed to use a '~といい' variant to answer in response. All of these phrases have the ending んです and I'm not sure why. The phrases are:

あしたから著効い行くんです。
日本の大学院にいきたいんです。
宿題を忘れたんです。

I understand that んです is used either when you are explaining something or if you are saying something and are expecting a response from the person to whom you are speaking. Could someone clarify why んです might be used in the sentences above?

Thanks.

I'm sure we'd need more information on context around the explainations. If there's a conversation surrounding each of these I would include that so we have context.
