This is a sentence from a manga that I found a little confusing.
The boy did something to make the girl mad so the boy goes and buys a pastry to give to the girl to make amends. He feels embarassed while handing it over to her and the girl replies with:
物で済ますあたりに、あまり誠意感じない。
I have translated this to something like "For someone who's trying to bribe me with goods, you're not being very sincere".
While I have a general rough idea of what the sentence is saying, I'm having trouble breaking down and analyzing exactly what the function of あたりに in that sentence is.
It doesn't seem like the "にあたり・にあたって" grammatical pattern but when I look up "あたり" none of the definitions seem to fit the context. However, when I look up "あたる", I find the definition "to be equivalent to" which seems to fit the context more closely.
Can someone help me determine the function of あたりに in the above sentence?
