Let's say I want to say I watched too much TV. Do i say misugiru? I know with the i and na form all I have to do is remove the i and the na and replace them with sugiru. But with the verbs, it's weird. Taberu can be tabesugiru. But unlike taberu, where you just replace the ru, nomu would be nomisugiru. I have to change the mu to mi and then add sugiru. It just seems very random. Someone help me please.

Nope, my textbook shows some examples like what to do with na and i adjectives. It will show certain examples. But I know sometimes the grammers have to be adjusted depending on ru verbs or u verbs, and it doesn't show example for every situation.

As Lanthas says, take the stem-form (or -masu form) and add sugiru.
So it's easy but it's a matter of understanding how the verbs work especially the fact that there are two major types of verbs, normal and the ru-verbs. And the third type which are exceptions. Yeah, the most confusing part is the fact that there are some ru ending verbs in the normal verbs. Like kakaru. This is actually a normal verb, but it ends in a ru. And there is no way to distinguish between the two. I asked my teacher and she says, you just have to know.

It's not that bad, often you *can* tell. If the verb ends in -aru, -oru or -uru, it's always a godan (-u) verb.
agaru -> agarimasu (not agamasu)
noru -> norimasu (not nomasu)
uru -> urimasu (not umasu)
On the other hand, if it ends in -eru or -iru, it's usually - but not always - an ichidan (-ru) verb.
sasaeru -> sasaemasu (but: kaeru -> kaerimasu)
miru -> mimasu (but: hairu -> hairimasu)
Again, I'd expect this to be basic stuff that's shown in the textbook really... And it surprises me even more that your teacher didn't point this out.

As already pointed out, you are misunderstanding. "Kakaru" is obviously a godan/consonant-stem/-u verb since it ends with "-aru". ALL ichidan/vowel-stem/-ru verbs end with "-iru" or "-eru". Indeed, not all verbs that end with "-iru" or "-eru" are always ichidan/vowel-stem/-ru verbs, so it sometimes might be confusing especially for beginner learenes, but the number of those kind of verbs are not so many. (The list in Wikipedia I linked below includes uncommon verbs that are usually not used in daily life.) You'll become to be able to distinguish even "kiru" ("to put on (clothing)" is ichidan, "to cut" is godan) by their kanji (着る vs 切る) or pitch accents by practice.
