Purpose of まま

In the sentence:

会場には、眼鏡のように体につけたまま使うことができ るウエアラブル端末がたくさん並んでいて、注目を集めています

what is the purpose of まま.

The context is a electronics demonstration convention.

My interpretation of the sentence is......In the convention Center, A usable, wearable computer terminal that is attached to the body as glasses, was gaining attention and there were many people lined up.

Is it another type of "because" as in "because it is attached to the body" or "As" as in "As it is attached to the body"

So is it "remains attached to the body"

As for たくさん並んでいて I thought that meant that many takusan = many alot 並んでいて standing in line or lining up?
