Hey All,

As some of you know from my previous posts I am moving to Japan in a little over a month. My newest question is about purchasing a couple items. I need to get a camera soon after arriving, as I have none and I know I will have many opportunities to take some great pictures. I'm thinking digital for the ease of sending pics back to my friends and such. I am also interested in buying a laptop. I have been told akihabara is the place to go for good deals on electronics, is this still true? Anyone else have any good reccommendations for places to pick up these items? Any help would be appriciated!

👍

It would help others help you if you narrowed your destination down to something a little more specific than "Japan". Not every place in Japan is within an easy subway ride of Akihabara.

hehe, well yeah suuuuuuure. I actually don't know for certain where I am gonna be. I won't find out for certain for a couple weeks. I do know that I will be somewhere from Tokyo-north, but not all the way north to Hokkaido . I didn't specify a place because I felt that I could travel to wherever I needed to go should someone reccommend a place.

If you are looking to save money you can almost always get better deals on digital cameras and laptops in America. (even the ones made in Japan makes no sense to me either)

If you want the latest tchnology then waiting until you get there is a good idea. It seems they release most new stuff over there a year or two before it gets here, and there are usually a wider range of models in Japan as well.
