Pronunciation of the name Amaya

Hi,

My wife and I really like the name "Amaya" for a girl, which we understand to mean "night rain" but we can't seem to find anyone who knows how it is correctly pronounced. Can anyone give me some guidance please?

Is it Ah-May-Ah or Ah-My-Ah or something else altogether?

Hmm, I think if it's "raining night", it's あまよ/雨夜, it's pronounced as Ah-Mah-Yo.
Edit: I've just found this. One of the topics on Yahoo Answers has similar question(not about pronounciation, though).

Amaya seems to be a pronunciation for 雨夜, which would mean "rainy night."

Amaya would be be pronounced ah-mah-yah, all three syllables with the 'a' sound from "father."

Hmmm, I don't think you can read "雨夜" as amaya...even for people's name.
At least Goo or Yahoo dictionary and the results of googling websites by 雨夜 tell me it's read as Amayo.
天谷 can be read as Amaya but it doesn't mean "rainy night"

Thanks for your help so far; it's a bit like my web searches - everyone has a different answer! It is also the name of a village in Spain .... I'll keep on persisting.

The goo and yahoo dictionaries wouldn't show 雨夜 as Amaya. It's a name reading. ENAMDICT shows only Amaya as the reading for 雨夜.
