Posting pakkage international from Tokyo

Hello there,

In nine days from now I will be visiting Japan and i am planning to do a lot of shopping in Akihabara. However I booked a trip around Japan and carrying to much baggage around isn窶冲 handy and to certain levels prohibited. My friend and myself were thinking about posting it to my home country (The Netherlands). I however don窶冲 have a clue how this works and if its worth it.
I was hoping someone can inform me a bit more about this.

Hello there,

I can't post a link yet.

I have sent packages from Japan to my home country without problem. Go to a big post office in Tokyo somewhere and they should speak English for you.

I heard that shipping things from Japan is very pricey, although I've never had to ship anything.

It is possible. Quite reliable even.
You just have to stick exactly to their rules when making the package. That's quite easy though if you just buy the box and the stripes from the post office.

I sent about 30 kg of stuff from Japan to Finland using the cheapest possible option. It got here in about three months.

And I would call it pricey. I think I paid about 30.000 yen for it..
I can't remember for sure though..

Talk to the shops you purchase from and they may be able to help.

There is a service called TAKUHAIBIN which ships stuff you buy from shops around Japan. Maybe you could ship the stuff to your last hotel or something like that and then take it with you on the plane.

Takkyubin service (domestic courier service) like Kuroneko Yamato (Yamato Transport Service Co.) is able to deliver your suitcase to the airport terminal building in time for your departure flight. You give your name and flight information for delivery, receive a baggage claim form and collect your suitcase before check-in by submitting the claim form.

I use this service to send off my baggage to the airport when traveling abroad but don't know if it is available for tourists.
I think you'll be able to get more information on such service at your hotel front desk or concierge.

I hope youre wrong I did the math and sending 30kg of stuff over to europe would cost around 180 euro's. that IS expensive Altho I would still probably do it. Also the shipping off 3 months is rather long that part suprised me more! Also I like the fact they speak English in larger post offices.

I like the pakkage sending over to Airport thing, going to get more info about that part. thank you everybody!

Not everyone speaks English but they may speak English at bigger offices especially when they have to deal with a lot of off the street customers. Expect the worst and you'll probably be surprised.

Yeah. I hope so too.. It's over a year ago so I'm not sure.
I posted two packages about 12-15 kg each.
I'll have to see if I can find their fees in the net and check it..

I might just have had bad luck with the shipping taking so long. Then again, I don't know. It WAS the cheapest option. ^^;
