A capsule hotel 'room' in Tokyo for only 13 US dollars a night!

Here is another YouTube video from Yuka. Just like her other video that I posted earlier in this thread, this video is excellent listening practice for intermediate students and above, because we can hear what she says, see the Japanese subtitles of what she says, and the English subtitles of what she says.

For those of you bringing a suitcase, there is no elevator!

And she does say it's rather noisy (probably from people staying in other capsules).


 
I discovered an interesting YouTube poster today - a British (I assume from the accent) YouTuber called Professor Nam Japan. This is a good video on Weeaboos and the harm of their one-sided views of Japan.
 
The Japan-related part doesn't start until about 23:09. This is an interesting video about Oliver, the strangely human-like chimpanzee. Perhaps some of the more seasoned members, like @Grandpa Frank will remember him, as he we briefly quite famous in the 1970s.

I was really hoping to find on Youtube clips from the show that aired on Japanese TV called 木曜スペシャル 謎の怪奇人間オリバー! but unfortunately, I couldn't find any.
 
I remember at the time , I wondered if it was my missing half-brother who had disappeared off the family radar. He looked a bit like me.
 
I want to show everyone how to enable English subtitles on Japanese-language YouTube videos.

For this example, I will use this video of the children's story Issun Boshi (Japanese "Tom Thumb") as an example:

(I have placed a space in the URL address between the initial h and t, in order to allow you to see the URL without the video popping up. Remove the space and use the URL. The intact URL is also used at the end of this post to bring up the video.)

I have chosen this video because this YouTuber was kind enough to embed Japanese subtitles into the video. When you, the viewer, manually enable English subtitles, you will be able to hear the voices speaking, read the Japanese subtitles, and read the English subtitles.

Steps:

Hover your mouse over the video itself. You will see a line of icons pop up in the bottom right corner of the screen. One of the icons is a cog wheel icon, next to the CC icon. Click on the cog wheel icon.

Several choices pop up. The second one says Subtitles. To the right, it may say English, Japanese, another language, or it may say Off. If it says Off or Japanese, click on that word

Another screen of choices pops up. You should see English as one of the choices. Click on English. This should cause English subtitles to automatically appear on the screen.

You can select another language besides English. Let's use French as an example. Follow the aforementioned steps:

Hover your mouse on the screen > Click on the cog wheel > Click on Subtitles.

The last choice is Auto-trranslate. Click on Auto-trranslate. This brings up a long list of languages. Scan down to where you see French. Click on French. French subtitles should now appear.

Changing it back to English

Hover your mouse on the screen > Click on the cog wheel > Click on Subtitles. English should be one of the choices on your screen. Click on it to bring up English subtitles.

Subtitles can be turned off. Hover your mouse on the screen > Click on the cog wheel > Click on Subtitles. Click on Off. The subtitles will disappear.

Another rickshaw video.

This one is interesting because the driver gives the passenger more than just a trip around the block. He gives her a long tour of the area. And at one point, he even builds up quite a bit of speed.


 
Here is something quite unique.

This is a song about the Sakura flower, written and sung in Hawaiian, by a group that seem to be people in Hawaii of Japanese ancestry.

This is the first time I have ever heard a koto being played in a Hawaiian song!

There is a place in Japan that has a red London double-decker bus which has been converted into a hotel room. The check in counter is a London-style telephone booth!


 
A Japanese-Canadian young lady does stand-up comedy.

She has more stand-up comedy YouTube videos, should anyone be interested.

Atsuko Okatsuka is an up and coming stand-up comedian in America. She has some funny stories, like how she got married in America, never filed the paperwork, so she had to get married again years later, just so she could file the proper paperwork and make it legal!


 
Misa-san (a co-worker of Yuka-san the rickshaw driver) takes a walking tour of a beautiful temple in Japan. She has to climb 300 steps to get up to the temple! This video gives a great feeling of what it is like to visit a huge temple out in the country.

(This video can be watched with a computer voice speaking the sub-title words in English, or you can watch the video while listening in Japanese and seeing English sub-titles on the screen. Feel free to ask for help on how to do these things.)
