PM storage limit?

This forum has set the default maximum number of PMs allowed in our folders to 210, but do you think this storage is too small? At first, I thought it's quite a lot, but mine is now already half full. Who else wants to have more than the default PM storage space? Or is it even possible?
 
One way of having the PM space that allows a person enough time to clear out, record outside the PC, or whatever, is to become a donator. Those who have donated have a maximum of 500 PMs allowed.

Even with that, it'll get full if many PMs are exchanged. I too have trouble with a full box, why just yesterday I ran it up the 94% full notice in my PM box at the top right. I like to keep files, and so I put the PMs on a CD-W (or whatever it's usually called) with the ones I feel most important and useful for future referencing in hard copy (paper) in clear-paged folders.

THEN...in that way, I can keep as many PMs as I want, and yet my box can stay clean. Every month or so I have to clean it out--getting rid of some, keeping the others.
 
Well, times are changing and Jref is also on the way to change it's design, constitution and some more stuff. So I do not see anything wrong with an upgrade of the PM box. Especially because Internet storage has become way cheaper than a couple of years ago.

I'll add it on a list of things that might change in the future (when... that's a good question).

Yahoo uncapped the email storage limit, so maybe jref also should? :?
Unlimited PM storage on jref would be nice!!

Haha, are you seriously compairing a company such as Yahoo with Jref ... what a compliment

Although I don't directly know anything about that, the member with the most reputation is currently Mike Cash. You might wish to send him a PM asking him if he has noticed anything.

That aside, don't you think there's a need to clarify some of these ambiguously worded FAQs?

Eventually, people with higher reputation scores will enjoy a few forum 'perks'; more storage for private messages, for example.

What does it mean "for example"? Can users trade in the rep points with other extra privileges, or not?

We would be very happy if you can tell us where there are more ambiguous worded faqs.
 
While not really being able to answer your concern (in one sense) I can answer it in another. If we were to take a look at it in a kind of Japanese fashion, we could say that the intent of the author had been clear, but had carefully worded it to allow for the beauty of abstraction.

The first word in the quote, above, is the clue... and I wil quote, "Eventually. Eventually is a mellowed out choice when wishing to place an open time window on any particular action or event. Yes, it will happen, it will be done. . . eventually.

The word here is applied to the entire clause.

Of course, 'for example' here seems to almost only lend itself to saying that among the various 'perks' that higher reputation holders may be able to enjoy (some time in the open future) having more PM space is one, or, at least, the other one. It could also be given as just an example of one of the 'perks' available, but not really one of them.
 
and why, oh why, do you need that much storage for PM's? anyway, I think 210 is really a lot, and a lot more then other forums allow.

I think it's more than enough,except those use PM function for numerous constant private e-mail conversations here.
 
Also I find it does help if you delete your unwanted or old PM's now and then. You dont have to keep every single PM people send you. Btw hello mos, Im back!!

Welcome back EH old(ish! fella, hope all's well, and very good to see you around these here parts!!

I quite agree - delete where you can, keep things clean and tidy in that PM box where possible!! (Whilst wishing I was one of those people who could do so!)

At the same time, may I humbly make my appeal to the powers-that-be that the limit be increased just a fraction?!!
 
I believe that the current quota is more than generous. We have no plans of increasing that limit, I am rather thinking of decreasing it.

If the box has reached the maximum storage size, does that mean no more PM delivery?? How do mods and admins contact the members??:?
 
Geeezzzz, clean house once in a while !

I've been here almost 5 years and I hardly ever reach 25 stored PM's. If it's important to me, I print off the PM and save it in a folder; then delete it from the JREF area.

As Frank does, just delete your old PMs, it's not really that hard.

I believe the mods and admins have access to e-mail addresses if they really need to contact someone, but chances are it rarely comes to that.

I guess you have no other choose to delete them, because you won't get a bigger storage space... or you want to donate money to jref .

hint: safe your PM's in a Word file.
