Maybe this is another member's idea of a punishment....:p but more to the point, that entire function (message folder display and ability to send/receive) seems to have disappeared or been relocated entirely. My account has also lost the ability to disable rep points. Neither of which is exactly a life altering issue. On the other hand, if they could be corrected ASAP that would be much appreciated too. :-)

Silly question... have you logged in? 😌

Seriously, we have not changed any settings. Which browser/OS do you use? Can you provide a screenshot of your CP, more specifically the "Edit Options" screen?

I am logged in and my OS/browsers are pretty standard : Windows XP/firefox at home and IE at work neither of which seems to effect the problem. My edit options screen has the section for Login & Privacy followed by Messaging & notification. Whatever the name of the area for disabling rep was is what appears to be missing (obviously).

Anyway, I have an early flight into Tokyo tomorrow morning so whatever more information I can help with will have to come later.

Thanks for the reply, Thomas ! :-)

Not having PM or the rep display arent really that much of a problem anymore and the former is kind of nice actually :p I`m just curious though whether any kind of fix is possible since I am pretty sure it is nothing I did could have caused this.

Elizabeth,

with your kind permission I could log into your account and check myself. This would require a change of password and your approval. Your privacy (PMs, etc.) would of course be perfectly respected.

If this isnt too time or effort consuming, I have full confidence my account information will be treated with the upmost courtesy and confidentiality. Thanks so much again, Thomas. How will the password change be handled ?

I will change the password myself. Your current password is encrypted, so I am unable to read it. After the procedure you will need to alter your password once again. The PW I am going to use is the handle of your current email account (without @ and domain).

Update: The issue requires more time. I will try to look into it again later today.

Thomas...I believe that I am having a similar problem. I just noticed today that my messages are no longer there and I am being blocked from sending any new messages. Any reasons for this?

Hummm????

It seems the ghosts of all those who have been banned in the past have taken over the JREF server to wreck havoc upon our most honored members?

I would bet a lot of money that someone in adminstration is probably hacking our accounts...if that is technically feasible...but hey I dont want to come off as too paranoid or mean spirited so there is always the possibility too this is all nothing more than an unhappy coincidence. :?

With all due respect, Elizabeth, even IF I had the time to do so, hacking accounts is the last thing that would come across my mind! My non-technical interest in member accounts is quite marginal.

You can log into your old account as described in my post above, no need to sign up for a new one.

I am busy at the moment, but will try to solve that issue later today. We haven't changed any settings, so I am clueless as to what could have caused the PM problem.

Certainly I was not referring to you as a possible suspect, Thomas. It was all kind of a joke anyway...at least I hope so. And I tried but for some reason couldnt get in the other way. Anyway, everything is fine now on my end with whichever account I end up using more so please dont go to any undue lengths to straighten whatever this is out. :-)

I apologise if I have misunderstood you, Elizabeth. We would never disrespect our members' privacy and do comply with our Privacy Statement.

The problem has been solved, I thank you and CC1 for your patience. Elizabeth, I have also merged your "Elizabeth2" account with your main account. If you need help, please contact me by clicking the "Contact Us" link in the top menu.

Thank you Thomas for correcting the problem! I will tell you also that I will protect all of the admins privacy as well! It seems as though another part of that malfuction was that I was able to access the staff posts as well. Everything is back to normal now though! (I didn't read them though as I am not staff!) Just thought that you need to know so that you can find out what caused the problem. It could have been really bad if the same thing happened to the wrong person/people...or even worse if they had access to the mod controls (which I didn't of course!).

CC1, I am glad that everything's back to normal. I appreciate your heads-up and your tact.

What a relief for me as well to be logged in as myself again ! :-) Zenbu umaku itte imasu yo. Mou ichido arigatou gozaimasu, Thomas san !
