This thread becomes a daily routine for me,you all are entertaining.

Kyoko-san,the active participation validates my rep points to you earlier on and my comments there have not gone unheard hehehe.

epigene-san,I could only understood those 2 Kanji characters meaning " humble " and the rest I am clueless.One of these days,I will eventually learn how to read those little hiragana phonetic symbols.Not nosy rather my inquiring mind wanting to take a peek at what you gals and guys are writing.

J44xm Audio Session #02

I just whipped together another audio session. This time, I'm reading from my own blog. I can't help but feel that something's a bit off with my intonation, though. This broadcasting stuff is tough, I tell you! Also, this probably wasn't the best blog entry to use since there are some Japanese words here and there, mainly when I refer to people. (I know them with their honorifics, so it seems unnatural to leave them off. In more formal writing, you should, though. It's not good to mix languages like this.) Enjoy!

Yeah, reading from scripts isn't the easiest thing to make sound natural. I'm really enjoying these, though.

doinkies-chaaaan, seems like you knew I was waiting for you to join us~~~~~! It was amazing you speak Japanese faster than I do, really! You can really speak it well, as clearly and fast as the native speakers. Please keep posting your Japanese, and if you have time, English too, for me ne!

Glenn-san and John-san, so you think I passed the dictation test? Actually, I was feeling a bit nervous because I was afraid maybe you'd said something totally different. I must confess this though... The first time I listened to it, I was like "What? what? what????? cho, cho, chotto, hayasugiru yooooo!" So I think I played it over and over, like 10 times to finish my dictation.

And John-san, you have already posted another reading, wow! It's a good idea to read your blog, cus you don't have to worry about the copyright thing and I have something to peep when I can't catch a word. Doumo arigatou gozaimashita! Oh, and this time again, I had a hard time following your speed the first time I played it, but after listening to it with 耳ダンボ (mimi danbo) several times I could catch almost all the words without peeping. Happy! (About the Japanese slang "mimi danbo", it referes to "being all ears". You know how huge Dumbo's ears are, right?)

I'm looking forward to your another reading, John-san, and of course, anyone is welcome to join us. I would really really love to hear the forum members' voice.

Sorry for not getting back in so long. Yes I had a talk show on SBC radio here in Nagano from April '97 to Oct. I did play some of the music for the show's intro and breaking for CM background music (BGM), but it was mostly talking with guests. It wasn't so good, actually, because I had limitations on what I could do, and couldn't make it more of a music show.

Oh, you definitely passed! You totally aced that test! Maybe I should slow down a little bit, though, huh? I'll try to watch my speed. Listening practice is really difficult for me, so I can sympathize with you. And thanks for telling me about 耳ダンボ too. I'd never heard that before but it makes sense!

You shouldn't be afraid to use your English. As has been said even English speakers have problems when it come to accents, either regional of from other countries. Years ago I met a driver from the Black country, an area west of Birmingham in the UK, and I had to ask him to repeat himself 4 times,as I couldn't understand a word he said. The Black country is only about 30 to 40 miles away from where I live. I don't have a problem with the accent now, I can even fake it (it annoys the hell out of my Canadian cousin, as she can't understand it at all). If eveyone had a problem with their speech we wouodn't be able to talk to anyone. I've had people take the mickey by the way I speak, just because I have a tendency to use a long "a" sound with words such as cast, last, past and fast. It is more prevalent to use the short "a" sound were I live.

Your story and Glenn's story made me feel a bit better. ^^;
So, even native speakers sometimes have problems, eh.
(It's just like I have problem understanding Japanese dialect!)

A few months ago, I came across a group of non-Japanese family who looked to be at a loss, and I called up all my courage and asked them in English if they needed a help. The parents then looked at their oldest son as they prolly didn't understand my English. And I kind of regretted that I had talked to them.
And then their oldest son came up to me and asked me for some information... but in PERFECT Japanese. How embarrassed I was back then... -_-;

As you probabaly know, I'm obbsesed with Japanese, so I try to have to best Japanese accent I can do. I said "watashi" in my regular English voice, then I said it in my Japanese voice, and when I speak in Japanese, my voice gets much higher O.O! It's oppisite from you. Hmm... anyone else notice this with any language?

And yeah, you speak a bit faster than I usually do.
I liked the way you pronounce your "r" sound in your name, which I'd never be able to pronounce it that way. xD

(Hey, I kinda expected to hear some Nagasaki accent, but I didn't recognize at all!)

Good thing I don't have a mic, or I might be tempted to make a fool of myself (esp since all the guys have deep voices, I'd sound like a girl)!!

Ow, and about the recording equipment, I used Audacity, and the microphone on my laptop of course. Be sure to download the MP3-encoder too, instructions are really easy, it's all on the site.

Well yeah, I was kinda nervous so that makes me talk faster.. You see, I stutter sometimes, so I try to cover it up by talking fast.. Maybe this is a good therapy to try and talk slowly and clearly!

Well, I couldn't pronounce it that way myself... We Rotterdam people have a really bad pronunciation of the R. But since I started learning Spanish it improved!! (I'm still bad a Spanish itself though..)

Yeah, the way I talk on the blog isn't really the "real me" as I always use 「俺」 instead of 「僕」,「ですけん」 instead of 「ですけど」 etc. Maybe in future "episodes" I will try to speak more naturally!!

なんでやねん！You should start a blog too!! It's very easy really. What's a microphone these days? Not more than a few quid I guess. And I don't have a deep voice!! I kind of dislike my voice really... But hey, what the heck.

*ahem* I wasn't really planning on it. I'm also microphonically deficient, and I'm not sure I can even plug one into my computer without some sort of modifications. Well, maybe if I can find some headphones with a mic built in, then I could use Skype, too. Hmm...

You don't have Skype yet? You're missing out man.. I always use it to call to Japan, and it works fine. Costs hell of lot less than using a ordinary phone.
