I got an audio blog called "Kerorogu", but no, keeping a blog or a diary is not my thing.

I have this song of which I would like to know the title and what the lyrics say and decided to record it myself.

It sounded like a nursery rhyme or something like that although it was not being sung by children but by several grown-up people in a movie I can't remember the title of. They were kinda flirting and playing some game there.

However, the rhyme itself was so catchy and it's first part stuck in my head for years. So I decided to ask the people here if anyone knows what it is and what it is really saying, hoping someone might know or at least has heard it somewhere as well.

I only remember the first part and my memory isn't that accurate but I hope it will at least give you a clue.

I don't think it has any special music to go with it. I've used it to play with kids (at an English conversation school) in the same way you sing "zui, zui, zukkoro-bashi."

Because I didn't know how the part I remember can be spelled, I could not even search it on internet, and I was not really expecting to get an answer because I didn't remember the whole song. I now feel so happy after finding out what I have been wondering for years. Your link says the first line is just nonsense syllables but I still really like how it sounds. Sounds so funny to me.

So do the children in Western world sing this rhyme to choose "it" when playing hide-and-seek or playing tag?
Isn't it the song Moms sing to their babies when they put them into bed?

The song is used in games of "Hide and go seek" or "it tag" yes it is usually used to pick which person "IS NOT" it or the seeker.
EXAMPLE:
7 kids put the tips of thier shoes to form a circle. One person is decided to say the rhyme which will being the slection process. If this person stops on your foot then you are free to go. The last person left is the seeker or is "it".
Makes the slection procees more fun this way instead of immediately choosing a seeker.
other variants are:

(selected person says a number "4")
f o u r spells four
and you are not the one to be it
in this game of hide and go seek.

I didn't know that song had a few versions. The one I know goes "My mother told me to pick the very best one. And it is you." at the end.

There are many lullabies in English, like "Rock-a-bye-baby", "Are you sleeping?" or "Hush Little Baby" are the ones I sang to the kids I watched.

The "eeny, meeny.." is not used as lullaby as the others have explained. It's used to pick someone for various purposes, I think, including choosing "it" in tag.

Lullabyes that misa-san mentioned are popular. My personal favorite I used when my kids were small is "Brahms' Lullabye." I don't remember the lyrics I used, but this page has variations of it:

In Holland we have something similar:

It is often used by kids to decide what to choose, similar to the Japanese
"どちらにしようかな？神様の言う通り・・"etc.
I saw a show last year about the local differences in the Japanese one.. Every prefecture seemed to have their own version!!

Catch a piggy by its toe.

Wow! so many nice comments! To all of you who listened to my recorded question and who posted answers/informations or compliments, thank you sooooo much and I'm so sorry for the late reply. Hontou ni arigatou gozaimasu and gomen nasai.

yukio_michael-san, please do not worry. Kind comments and good information can never scare me, as I said elsewhere, the only things that can scare me are dog poops and spider webs, hehehe. I just write English very slow, using dictionaries. When I find a reply to my post, I minute my reply to it on the notepad and when I am ready to submit it, I find another reply, then I have to go back to my draft and re-write it Then I am ready to submit it again, then I find another reply and I have to re-re-write my post and this goes over and over again like forever, and I never get to post and I eventually have to give up. This is what happens to me here all the time, on lively threads.

As for the rhyme, it seems to have various versions. Imagining little Damicci-chan singing bubble gum bubble gum and chibi Mikey-chan singing the N-word version makes me smile. Little Davey-chan must have sung the dutch version leon-san introduced.

Me, yes, I have grown up with the song "Zui zui zukkorobashi" as epigene-san did and off course I'm familiar with this song "Dochi dochi dochira ni shiyou kana~~~~~" Those Japanese ones don't have any special music to go with them either. And as leon-san said, they have some different versions too. epigene-san really should get a voiceblog like mine and introduce those songs desu yo!~~~.

misa.j san, thanks for the information about lulubies. I think I only know "Are you sleeping?". Those songs should be sung slowly and gently, so they can be good for us learners to sing, easier than the fast rap songs.

Lastly, about having an audioblog. I really think it's fun and useful. When I have some questions about English pronunciation I can record and ask for the correction, (If you are in Japan, you can even leave your voice comment there through any phone) and oh yeah, maybe I could record some Japanese words/phrases/sentences to help Japanese learners, if they didn't mind my local accent.

It would be the best if each of you, my sensei, has got one though, so that I could hear you and learn how to say something in English. It's really tanoshii yo! Anyone?

I love your voice and I agree with several people *points to above* that you could be a voice person for some anime. Hm I speak pretty good English *lives in USA* but I was born in Russian *so I also speak Russian fluently* and I am taking Spanish and German at my school. I really really really wanted to take Japanese but our school does not offer it! >_< So now I am looking everywhere for an inexpensive progrman or online site that could teach me Japanese. I've gone through the " rough draft " phase many years ago.There's one notable emotional handicap,I am born reserved ( painfully shy at times,still occasionally ... hehe ... how could I've written many unruly obnoxious posts @ Jref ) and always had difficulty in expressing my feelings and thoughts.

I noticed my tone gets deeper when I speak Japanese. Maybe because I am concentrating so much.
