There was a page written, called 言わせていただく, which dealed with this construction and why it is hard on the ears. I found it to be interesting.

I also don't like (maybe hate) to hear 'させていただく'
because there are too much automatically saying 'させていただく' people.
I hate also '1000円からお預かりします' and '〜〜でよろしかったでしょうか'.
Whenever I hear these phrases, I want to say "Speak Japanese!" to him/her.
