Found this nice video about this guy that lived was surrounded by the Yakuza for years and took photos of their lives.

Interesting. Who would have thought that journalists can still milk the yakuza topic to make money? Anton Kusters posted a lot of his photos on his website. And an interview here.

Davey, you have probably come across their kind quite often in Kobe. Here around Tokyo I have only seen once what I believed to be chimpira clad in brightly-coloured suits. But perhaps there were just cosplaying in Ikebukuro.
 
I was in an onsen earlier this year in a mid sized city and a guy covered in tattoos sat down beside me to wash himself. A bit jarring at first, but I saw him several times after that in the onsen and it was kinda normal.
 
Although the Yamaguchi gumi's head office is only a 10minute walk from my House I don't really see anything. There was just one time when I went to Nada onsen (5min south from their head office) when I saw a guy covered with tattoos.

And yeah, the chimpira guys wouldn't dare to be in the HQ area.
