Hi and I love rats , not mice even though they are both called nezumi. I want to know if rats are popular in japan, Where to get them and if I find them in a pet store how to differ them from mice. Thanks.


ps. How do japanese people call micee and rats differently so other people know what they mean?:?

Mice and rats are vermin, and most people consiter them dirty and buy them merely to feed to snakes. You would do better to look into a hamster or ferret.

btw i dont think rats are vermin i think there liveing breathing beutiful creatures and the only reason that city rats spread desise is becouse they have to live in human garbige and waiste

in some temples in india rats eat off the plates of monks and they live till there ancient

Try asking for a 'large mouse' or "oonezumi."

There's anime version, ganba, youtube, but I think it is more challenging, but it is a nice book to read.
Probably no English translation yet, so I bet you can build a house if you want to be an ambitious translator, but not that big potter's castle.

I spent the best part of last year trying to wipe out a colony of rats who shared my house with me.

I tried poisoning.

Waiting by one of the holes with a baseball bat.

I even caught one in a cage overnight until the little bugger smashed it open and stole the sweet potato I left as bait.

None of my rat catching plans worked but one day I cleaned out a corner of the house I did not usually frequent ( It was a sprawling 12 room traditional Japanese house - so lots of places like that) - there was a baby rat sitting in the cage I had thrown away. At last! I grabbed it and marched it outside to the river. I had decided it was death by drowning.

But it looked at me with it's big shiny eyes and it looked kind of mousey not ratty. And in the end I couldn't do it. So I let him go.

In the 9 months I lived in that house I never managed to kill one rat. They may be vermin but in the end I saw them more like my lodgers.

I was at Viva Home the other day and they had several animals in their pet section, including bearded dragons, hamsters, guinea pigs and mice. Didn't see any rats, though.
