Travel Oita cost of living

Are the cost of living in Oita and Tsukuba for a single person more cheaper than tokyo?

I contacted the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and they said that the cost of living for students in Beppu(oita) was around 75,000 yen (699 dollars) can anyone tell me how accurate are these numbers?

Do you have some reason to doubt them?

If you'll be living in their dorm and eating in their cafeteria, they will be much better qualified to give you accurate information than us.

Practically any place is cheaper than Tokyo.

If your real concern is wanting to be close to Tokyo (partying), then Tsukuba is much closer than Oita.

I will send another email to the university but I think that this estimative was taking in consideration someone living outside the dorms and eating out or cooking their own meal, I'm with uncertainty because the estimative given by the university seems a bit low specially when compared to other areas of Japan

Here there are four example budgets from students living by themselves. Looks to me like the 75,000 figure may be a little bit lowball but not too bad. Depends how much travel/partying you're intending on doing.

Tokyo is more expensive especially in terms of rent. Many items may be a bit more expensive, but not that much. Other items are essentially price fixed and not different at all.
