Hey everyone,
I just moved to Shin-Osaka, and so far japan is great! I live near Osaka and Kyoto , Nara and Kobe, tons of fun! the only problem is, all of those places cost money, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about shin-osaka? guitar stores, gyms, cool bars, anything?
discounts for jref members! I can show you not only the pachinko parlor down the street, but the pachinko parlor beside the pachinko parlor, and I'm talking about the one that's beside the pachinko parlor, not the one that's beside the pachinko parlor. Or, the lawsons stations that are every 10 feet japan is so funny! but.. so wonderful
I recall a parody Japanese language book that included instructions to help emergency services locate you. It gave translations for "I am near a convenience store/electronics shop/pachinko parlor." Yeah, THAT'LL help! Anyway, I don't know anything about Shin Osaka, but when I lived in Taipei, I lived in the outer reaches, a residential neighborhood no other foreigners lived in. I took a lot of walks and I found some neat things, including a little park, an old-looking shrine, a great bakery, etc. So I advise lots of walking!
Also, there is a Visitor Information Center in Shin Osaka. Have you gone by there? I don't know where it's located, but their phone number is 06-6305-3311.
I still remember the good old days when convenience stores were rare enough to be useful reference points for giving directions.
You'd be surprised (or maybe not, come to think of it) at the number of truck drivers who give directions starting from the nearest pachinko parlor to a destination....by name.
