To combat illicit and harmful activities in host clubs across the country, the police imposed over 200 administrative sanctions, The NPA reported on 4 April. The persistent issue of young women, including some as young as 18, incurring substantial debts at host clubs has been a concern for years. This often leads to many entering the sex trade to settle their debts. During a November to December 2023 campaign, the NPA inspected 729 host clubs across 33 prefectures, a significant portion of the 1,000 host clubs operating nationwide. In November, the agency had alerted local police forces to intensify their enforcement efforts.
