Nova?

Nova is the language teaching equivalent of working at McDonalds. The primary differences being that you dress nicer and don't get spattered with grease.

But spittle, phlegm, dirt from kids hands etc is jsut as bad.

:D

Conversation between me and a Nova manager (true story):

"Will you teach kids' classes?"
"Can I spank them?"
"NO!!!"
"Then I'm not teaching them."

haha abuse always teaches them english better. What were they thinking :p

Let's not confuse abuse and discipline. The sort of kids normally dropped off for Nova teachers to babysit while Mom dashes off to her favorite boutique are very often untamed hellions of the first order.

Nova is great if you want to get lots of japanese girls.
It seems that not even the students are off limits to the teachers there.
The school at Nishi-Nippori is very good I heard.

Technically your not supposed to socialise with the students outside class. I cant say I agree but.

Pfft, lazy buggers. Go find some women outside of eikaiwa and the clubbing scene ;)

Hehe why?

The eikawa scene is so easy.

Its all set up for you.

This student of mine has her last lesson Saturday. We already have swapped numbers and I'm completely smitten. As in I REALLY like this girl. I'm hopinh to see her more now she's leaving NOVA.

really guys, take a challenge! Thats where all the fun is!

oh and ewok, fantastic web comic man I loved it!

Its a comfort zone thing.

All my life I have met women at either school, work or bars.

Its hard finding a common ground elsewhere.

Tried a bit of train nampa, but the initial approach is very difficult.

Theres another thing. You may have seen my post saying how bored I am? Well thees quite a few students that have said they wanna go out with me. Not in the romantic sense. As in maybe go shopping. Hiking. The beach. Just general freindship things. Male and female. Its REALLY hard knocking back great offers because of stupid illegal rules.

Ok, students wanting to take you out to see a movie, hiking, their favorite places is a win. I've had people take me fishing, out camping (got really drunk and sat around talking cars, dont get any funny ideas), to little countryside onsens, an airforce base, temples and shrines left right and center. THESE things are what i remember best, go for it.

Now some guy who just picks up girls at the eikaiwa to have a little 'fun' with is the type that just ruins it for everyone.

Train nanpa is hard, people on the train just want to go from point A to B and dont expect that sorta thing. And have you had a look at shorinji kempo yet? :P

I'm at the website now! :-)

Thing is, with NOVA's rule I can't even go to the movies, hiking, drinking parties etc.

Even thats against the rules.

It could be worse.

I used to teach at a place that practically required us to go out on social events with the students. Whether we wanted to or not. Whether we could stand those particular students or not. No overtime, of course. And no reimbursement of expenses, of course.

After that place, Nova's policy was a relief. After all, it's easier to fool the staff over who you went out with than over who you didn't go out with. Think about it.

Oh yeah. Heard about those establishments. Knew of a girl that had some trouble because she wouldn't return the affections of an overly amorous student, who then kicked up a stink.

Oh, this wasn't anything along those lines. It was more like the way a regular company expects their salarymen to spend their evening shmoozing clients. They thought it very unreasonable of me to point out that perhaps we ought to receive overtime pay and reimbursement of our expenses.
