Nissan has developed new paint technology designed to reduce interior temperatures in vehicles parked in direct sunlight significantly. Tests have shown that cars coated with this innovative material can remain up to 12 degrees cooler than those with standard paint. The coating material helps keep the car's exterior cool and reduces the temperature inside the vehicle. This is achieved by mimicking the natural radiative cooling process, where heat is released into space. Nissan collaborated with Radi-Cool, a Chinese company specializing in radiative cooling technologies, to develop this innovative paint.

The car on the left is equipped with new paint technology that can reduce its temperature by approximately 10 degrees when parked in direct sunlight (Nissan).

The paint is particularly effective at reducing temperatures on the car's roof and the driver's seat, with readings up to 12 and 5 degrees lower, respectively, compared to traditional paint jobs. Nissan emphasizes that lower interior temperatures can lead to reduced energy consumption for air conditioning, ultimately benefiting both the environment and vehicle owners.

However, one obstacle remains: the paint is six times thicker than the usual coating on the car body surface. The substance is also more expensive, which would add to the total cost of a new vehicle. That, in turn, makes it difficult for the coating material to be utilized for mass-produced passenger automobiles.
