Nippon Oil Vietnam venture gains record CO2 credits

Japan's Nippon Oil Corp said on Friday that its joint Vietnamese oilfield project has been awarded 4.49 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emission credits by the U.N. Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) programme.

News like this makes me want to punch a hole in a wall. Carbon dioxide credits are the A #1 stupidest thing people have ever come up with. Blatant hypocrisy. If you are worried about the environment, stop emitting carcinogenic gasses, don't try to get permission from somebody to throw a false air of legitimacy over yourself.

Forget the awards for using less, nothing will happen unless we stop usin at all..

A day back to the horse and cart would be fantastic, or the elephant as they used in Asia and still use in parts today.

And to think the UN is complaining about North Korea showing photos of poor regions with the locals utilizing the horse...

I wonder how much pollution is coming out of these places..

Mention of "deep sh*t" is very appropriate when mentioning the day of the horse and buggy. Fine enough for rural areas but an utter impracticality for urban areas. Tens of thousands of horses generate a very immediate, massive, pungent, and tangible manifestation of their "exhaust". Why do you think people in urban areas were so eager to rid themselves of horse-drawn modes of transport in the first place? The filth they generate was a major factor.
