Every year it's the same thing... I want to save more money, I want to buy quit smoking, I want to go on a trip to Japan, etc. New year resolutions.

I noticed that my lungs are getting weaker while I am in Japan, so I realized that I really need to do some more sports. I guess that will mean that I will or go on a fitness club (which are bloody expensive), or I have to work out by myself (jogging, push ups, etc... which you really need discipline for). I also really want to pass the JLPT 2 this year, and I also would like to go to school in the evenings (maybe getting a University degree after all.)
*Work-out every week
*Pass the JLPT2
*Get a better education.

So what's your new year resolution, the thing you want to change in your life style, something you really want for the new year? Do you believe that making a resolution this time of the year can be more stimulating? Or it really doesn't matter when you want to change or do something?

This thread is their to give advice to others, so please be so kind to do that 🙂. When it is getting a topic on itself please start a new thread or the posts will be split into a new thread.

Good luck!

My resolution is to try to cheer up and have a better attitude. I've slipped into a pretty bad attitude this year and I have to change it.

I resolve to get more excercise, cut down on smoking, save money, get more sleep, and find good Genoa salami.

Theres a few things I want to change.

Get fit.
Take care of my looks more. (Clothing and just shaving more regularly)
Be able to hold a conversation in Japanese without getting overly frustrated.
Reduce my stress. (2008 was pretty bad for me at times)
Save money for my eventual trip to Japan.
Visit my friends who have moved out of London.
Generally try to be more positive.

I also have to make a decision whether I should abandon my Computing Degree course and switch to Japanese full time in SOAS or continue the Degree with Japanese as a minor. I've struggled with this issue for a while and even though I know the more beneficial way would be carrying on the Degree a large part of me wants to do Japanese full time, the problem is I don't know what I could do with just a Japanese Degree except teach English in Japan which I could do without a Japanese Degree.

Sorry for that little 'fit' 😌

Well, I'd like to lose five to ten pounds, have a happier outlook on life as I close in on 50 (January 12th)----and win the Powerball Lottery for an obscene amount of money so I can live the sort of opulent lifestyle I constantly dream about!

:D

Never make them, as I know I will not keep them. I'm just lazy. Anyway I don't smoke, I go to a gym (should really go more regularly) and try not to get too stressed, difficult as a driver, but I try. At least I don't drink caffine, that used to make me stress.

In that case, you should try a 9-iron or a fairway wood! :D Moldy golf humor!

I never make up this kind of resolutions. I don't believe this is good way of actual doing something, same as "from Monday, I will... stop smoking, start exercise etc"
decisions should start right away you make them... there is no "preparing time" or whatever it should it be....
but basically, I do have some plans, or goals I would like to achieve, of course.

I haven't made any resolutions either! And I read the other day that actually they are bad for your health (making you feel bad about yourself if you fail, etc.) so I'm glad I didn't make any!

There are some things I would like to achieve or progress in 2009 though; I want to get better at piano (but that's little effort as I love practicing), also either keep my job or find a better job (some chance, hah! but I can try!).

Also I think 2009 is going to be a creative year for me and I hope so; I want to do more creative things e.g. drawing/painting and making things. But I haven't made a resolution about it or anything... it's supposed to be fun!

This year I'm resolved not to let things bother me so much. That would be a bit hard to do if I gave up drinking though. ;-)
