It finally aired this Friday in the US, I had the cable box record this one for me. To say that I wasn't apprehensive about this show would be a lie because I have been a big fan and supporter of SG-1 for years. I didn't want to have the same fate happen to Stargate that happened to the house of Trek, weak show ideas combined with the weekly revamping of the 12,000 trek shows that were on at one point in time.
But while watching Atlantis, I was pleasantly surprised. Two of the SG-1 cast appeared to sort of help branch off the story in a nice transition, and while the idea of the possibility of never returning home was a little overused in other shows, it seemed to work here. Overall, I feel that the multi-national team is a good idea and the annoying counterpart to Col. Carter was a riot in this show.
The effects were nicely done and in my opinion, very cool in the fact that the crew seems to have experimented a little more than they can in SG-1 because SG-1's universe is somewhat more conrete after 8 years. The coolest shot had to be the MALP floating in space, very imaginative.
The enemies, while very Marilyn Manson looking, seem to be an interesting concept. The wole idea behind them is a little creepy too. It will be very interesting to see how they play in the show.
Overall, I think the show could do well if they make it a 2-3 season show. I just hope that they keep it interesting enough to make it that long.
Well have to see, huh?
