Based on what I read there, it does seem to mean the same.

A list from one of the commenters:
Actually you can find some of -る動詞 100 years ago like サボる originally from sabotage (French) る around 1920 years.
Now we have so many -る動詞 we don't even know when it originally came from but ディスる has been on the internet since early in 2000.
Here are some of -る動詞 I've been using since I was a kid in 1980 - 1990s.
サボる
ハブる
居ぬる
トラブる
テンパる
愚痴る
ダベる
カモる
ケチる
パクる
コクる
事故る
ミスる
ダブる
メモる
アピる
スタンバる
デコる
ポシャる
ヤジる
ハモる
There are more but some of them are already being 死語, and there are more new phrases coming like 茶ベる、ガシる、エモる so and so on.
