Well I'm in the process of looking into Okinawa and miyako Jima today.
The problem I'm finding out is one the language barrier and two everything is done on computer or smartphone these days.
H.I.S. is all done on the computer these days and they want to make sure you have a hotel reservation with the company you cannot just order a plane ticket only these days what a bummer.
So now I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get to Okinawa and miyako Jima.
I'm not going to have it where the wind is my roadmap this time until I get to miyako Jima because it's everything is going to be scheduled really tightly.
I do have a couple medical appointments that lead into about the middle of August so which is good for me actually and hopefully all my results come out negative so far one result is negative which was really good news for me.
My plan is to really find a job on one of the islands when I get there and stay as long as I can.
There's a few good blogs about the islands there's a person in Tokyo her and her husband they have traveled the Okinawan islands in the blog is really very professionally done and their professional photographers too so you can't expect nothing but the best from them.
One thing I did find out on the islands long since not a tourist Island it's all free camping and usually the islands the beaches they usually have showers and which is good to free so that is pretty well taken care of also.
I just bought a one-man tent that is 2 kilos at my other tent was way too heavy and this time I'm not going to take my bike I'm just going to go and buy a bicycle when I get to one of the islands it's well actually it's impossible to take my bike so I'm just going to end up buying a bicycle on one of the islands.
This actually gives me much more time to schedule but one thing I'm finding out is the airlines there's only a few seats available in the month of August so I really won't find out about my medical test results for another two weeks so I'm really puzzled actually should I really make reservations or wait.

Regarding the hotel reservation, could you make a cancellable reservation and just cancel it after the air tickets are purchased?

That's a good question but actually I have a friend in naha who has actually a website for Okinawa and he joined here a little while back also his name is David and I'll be contacting him I can probably just crash out where he knows a place to crash out overnight and then I found out there's no fairies going to the islands no more so it's all by airplane or by private boat or something but there's no fairies so from now to miyakujima it's by plane only and I haven't got that schedule yet I just went to the Jr bus terminal and it's only like from Yamaguchi to hotel Fukuoka only 2,200 yen it's like half price from the shinkansen and the time schedule for leaving the airport in Fukuoka works out pretty good so I'm working on it as far as the hotels go I'm this time I've really got to save for typhoons in emergency other than that I understand the public transportation and your local Gina is pretty good so the benches should be a pretty good place to crash out on

Funny, I was just talking to someone about Miyako-jima today. They made it sound like it was accessible by ferry, but it is one of the further islands in the archipelago, pretty much halfway to Taiwan. I'm planning to do a lap around Okinawa's main island in September myself, we'll see if I'm able to fit in any side trips to islands.

Hey man thank you so much , by the way there is a ferry but it is a non people type transportation it is only for goods and services . there's no ferry that hauls people to the islands.
Today I actually met a lady who works with the University students here at Yamaguchi University and she actually works on campus as the travel agency agent and she's one who typed in the Japanese and says yep you're right there's there are no ferries, there is a ferry for that transports goods and services but it is not a people transfer ferry.
Sounds like she's going to work with me on transportation part. tomorrow I'll visit her at her office at the campus and see how it goes. today I found out that I can take the Jr bus from Yamaguchi to Fukuoka for only 2,200 yen which is really a good bargain.
And she can also arrange for the tickets for that also. I was so lucky today I met two people today at the a temple Park here in Yamaguchi and they were very friendly and helpful.
I haven't had time to check out your link but I'll get back with you on it and yeah for real I'm just going to do something and try to earn a little money actually.
Getting your motorcycle to the off Islands now that that's pretty interesting yeah it'd be kind of cool man if to team up in September but I think by then I'll be on one of the islands another Island I want to see lshigaki island.

I think when I get to one of the islands I'm just going to ask the farmers to see if they need help or on the big island I'll see if they have what they call Hot staff employment agency.
But I'm just really looking for part-time work and I don't mind restaurant work or farming work any type of agriculture work is fine also but I don't know I'll find out when I get there.

@musicisgood thank you for posting all of your photos! Looking at them, I realize why I was away from Jref for so long. They really tugged at my heart strings. I guess I haven't yet gotten over my love of living there. sigh
