I have a few questions about movie tickets in Japan, and I was wondering if someone could help me out. These things seem like common sense, but I only went to see 1 movie during my year here, and I didn't buy the tickets, so I'm not sure how this works!

I want to see the Full Metal Alchemist movie, which comes out July 23rd. The movie theater in my town is like an hour bike ride away, so I was just gonna see it next time I'm in Tokyo. Unfortunately, I'm guessing that the tokyo theaters will be packed, even though it's an anime movie, just because all the otaku will be there shopping and will want to see it.

So, I was wondering:
1) can i buy advance tickets before the day of the showing at the movie theater? Can I buy them a week before? A day before? Even the morning of would be ok.
2) How does the Lawson ticket thing work? Lawson is selling tickets, but do I just buy one and hope I get in, or does it hold a spot for me for a certain time and date at a certain theater?

I would be thankful for any help I could get on this!

Thanks so much for the info! I'm hoping to see it the day after it opens, so I hope it won't be too busy *crosses fingers*.

even if you buy one of those advanced things at lawsons or a discount ticket shop you still have to go to the theater that you will be attending and get your ticket with your assigned seat.

thanks to both posters of info! here's some reputation! peace
