"There is a dirt mound with leaves and tiny branches"
Is one 文節
"leading into which is a cavity."
'which' refers to 'a dirt mound'. This isn't obvious from the grammar of the sentence, but a cavity can't easily lead into 'leaves and tiny branches'.

'cavity' is not a very clearly chosen word. Plain old 'hole' / 'tunnel' would be clearer ... :sick:

'leading into' の主語は何ですか?
"a dirt mound with leaves and tiny branches" が主語ではないですか?「落ち葉や枯れ枝の混ざった塚」と言うような意味だと思います。"leading into which is a cavity" は、「空洞に通じる」と言う意味ではないでしょうか。

なぜ 'a cavity' ではなくて 'which is a cavity' なのでしょうか?

There is a dirt mound with leaves and tiny branches leading into which is a cavity.

That's an excellent description. The only problem is that there's quite a lot more in it than the original English. Still I suppose the original author of the English isn't going to know any better if it is 'enhanced' a little. 😌

There is a dirt mound leading into a cave.'
(I assume that the writer had confused 'cavity' and 'cave'. What do you think about this?)

Yes. I think it's clear. the _rest_ of the tree is gone

That's leading in the wrong direction. 😌
The hole leads into the interior of the dirt mound.

No. Cave is generally for holes in solid rock. Also the original, original was in Portuguese. The author translated it to 'English' as 'socket' :? which was obviously wrong a second opinion on what the translation should be came up with 'cavity'. 'Cavity' isn't actually wrong, it just isn't as clear as 'hole' or 'tunnel'.

I see...I give up that idea.
Now, I can imagine a dirt mound is which has a hole / tunnel inside of it.
But I want to try another idea. Let me explain, please.

The subject of 'leading into' is 'leaves and tiny branches'.
That is, there is a path (leaves and tiny branches formed a path) leading into a cavity upon the mound.
Is this possible?

Because, you said 'which' refered to a mound and the subject of 'leading' was the mound. That results in the sentence to be 'There is a mound leading into the mound.' I think it is imposible. Did I misunderstand something ?

If YES (I'm wrong), the Japanese discription of Forest is as follows:
<森>

wakaP said:
Because, you said 'which' refered to a mound
Yes I did.
wakaP said:
and the subject of 'leading' was the mound.
I don't think I did say that.

OK, let's see what I did say ...

"leading into which is a cavity."
'which' refers to 'a dirt mound'. This isn't obvious from the grammar of the sentence, but a cavity can't easily lead into 'leaves and tiny branches'.

So the way I intended that to be interpretted was ...

"The cavity doesn't lead into 'leaves and tiny branches' the cavity leads into
a dirt mound."

Do you think it will be obvious to Japanese users what a ウィザードリスト is?
In other words that in MOOs 'wizards' are the administrators and programmers?

=============
I think this one's a bit easier / better. 😌

There are a number of commands for modifying various characteristics of the object representing you in the MOO. Help on them is available in the following topics:

@describe -- setting what others see when they look at you
@gender -- changing your user's gender
@password -- changing your user's password
@sethome -- changing your designated home room
@rename -- changing your name and/or aliases
@linelength -- adding word-wrap to the lines you see
@language -- setting your current language mode
@languages -- setting what languages you speak

@gender (性別) -- 性別を設定する。
@password (パスワード) -- ユーザのパスワードを変更する。
@sethome (ホームを設定) -- ホームの部屋を設定する。
@rename (名を変更) -- 名前と仮名を変更する。
@linelength (行の長さ) -- 表示している行をワードラップする。

I'm not sure that it will be obvious to Japanese users what a ウィザードリスト is.
Let's add the definition of ウィザード, then it'll be

My translation is here:

> Look PaulTB
You look at PaulTB, he's so fine, he's so fly he blow your mind. :D

I wonder about 変更 vs 設定. Generally you start with your character's sex 'undetermined' and then you set it to male (or female). It isn't something that tends to get changed again. (Although if you really wanted to I suppose you could switch it once a day ... :eek: )

I see. It's a short self-introduction, isn't it.
So, the Japanese will be
@describe(自分の説明):簡単な自分紹介文を設定します。

I also thought what you wrote above. Well, now we can use both 設定 and 変更. That is,
@gender(性別):性別を設定・変更する

Well it's a minor point but I think it looks better now anyway. 👍

Thanks a lot for your help so far ... I'm not sure if the practice is actually doing me much good but it's more composition than I've done for ages. 😌

The next bit is really short, but I think my brain is getting overworked ^^v somehow it didn't really come out very well.

====

Here are a few commands of occasional utility that didn't fit into any of the neat categories for the rest of the help system:

@version -- printing the MOO server version number
@lastlog -- finding out when some user last connected to the MOO

====

@version (バージョン番号) -- MOOサーバーのバージョン番号を表示する。
@lastlog (最新のログイン) -- どなかかのユーザを最新オンライン時を見つけ出す。

I think that the 'occasional utility' part makes the sentense hard to translate.
@version (バージョン番号) -- MOOサーバーのバージョン番号を表示する。
@lastlog (最後のアクセス) -- ユーザーが最後にアクセスした時間を調べる。

The following has been patched together from several people's suggestions. Hopefully it's fairly good by now but I'd like it if you could give it a glance over.

Common computer room (#11907)

An average university computer room. Usually this would be a hive of activity throughout the day, dying down to a background level at night. It is open all hours so just as dawn breaks you can see the desperate comp. sci. student stagger out, and the MUD addict sneaking in for a quick fix. At the moment though a single electrician is poking around dubiously at some wiring - it doesn't look like anybody will be using it for a while.

Eavesdropping implies listening rather than reading, of course in a MOO all 'speech' is actually typing but there is a general distinction between メール (sent to be read later) and various types of チャット (real time 'talk'). Does 盗み読み work for secretly following conversations then?

いぶかしい is not much different from あやしい。 Although the former means that the electrician feels suspicious about 配線, the latter means that the electrician is suspicious person!
