Monbukagakuso scholarship, should I come?

I have got the Monbukagakuso scholarship for undergraduate scholarship but I don't feel like studying in Japanese. However, I learnt japanese for a while and i like it. Just don't want to learn in japanesse coz studying maths in japanese for international students seems hard.

Any suggestions and words of inspiration. I like to come and study in japan. its just i fear of learning stuffs like maths in japanese...seems too hard..

Frankly, if you've got the Monbusho Scholorship (any of them), you'd be incredibly stupid not to go.

The scholorship is one of the best ones in existance. It funds you completely and gives you money to live off of. It's like saying "I could have gotten a free Ferrari, but I decided not to because the controls aren't in English"

It's one of the best ways in existance to learn Japanese, and that will likely be all you do when you're there if you're on the one year scholorship, and you'll catch up fine otherwise.

It boggles the mind that someone who "doesn't feel like studying Japanese" could get the scholorship. There are many, many people out there who would kill for the chance.

thanks for the reply, still I am confused, I know a guy who didn't go on the Monbusho scholarship to japan but went to US...i will have to decide soon though...huh...

Prob I will go...let's see...i know it's one of the best and most reputed one...but i don't know why that does not appeal to me...before i got it it was so appealing...maybe it's the Walker Percy's way...anyway thanks for the reply

You, congratulations on getting this prestigious scholarship. Your application must have been a strong one, and you should be proud. However, I would echo what Nall-ohki said: this is one of (if not THE) best scholarship available, and many students really want the opportunity. If you feel that you are not truly motivated to go, turn down the scholarship. The Monbusho will offer it to someone on the "alternates" list, and that person will be delighted.

Learning a language is about more than talent or opportunity: it's about motivation. If you don't want to do it, let someone else have the chance.

It truly bothers me that you could get this scholorship and not care about it. Seeing as you have very little desire in going, I would highly reccomend you give up the scholorship to someone who's life it will enrich and possibly change forever (as it did in my case).

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's your decision, but I suggest giving it up to someone who actually wants it, not someone who kind of does but doesn't feel like bothering with another language.

hmmm exactly what does it take to get such a scholarship? high SAT scores and ACT?Ive looked in some areas but not all familiar on the scholarship...some clear information would be very helpful.

We had to take test for the scholarship. It can be compared to SAT but it is a bit more difficult and the questions are not disclosed, and there are no sample test, which makes it harder.

Wow. My Japanese isn't particularly great, but I was at one point considering applying for the scholarship but didn't in the end, only because I switched my choice of major... though I must say, regardless of how not-so-good my Japanese skills may have been, if I had gotten the scholarship I would have jumped at the opportunity. Come on, you get SO much money! It's an amazing windfall. Besides, don't you have to attend Japanese classes for about 10 months before you actually enter university? At least, that's what's I understood from what was stated on the website and form.

what about all the hard work you put in order to get it ? Something doesn't make sense here.. Applying for the scholarship is an-all year process and takes a lot of effort ... didn't you consider the chances of turning it down earlier at one stage ?? I second everyone's opinions... if you don't feel like going for it , let someone else have it.. some people were selected as alternates, and they 'd die to get selected as official candidates And some would die to get selected by MEXT at the end .... I know that because I would ....

I've seen many who grab multiple scholarships and bail out halfway. Selfish, greedy, self-centred and unappreciative b******.
