On our letter from embassy, it states that the results will only be known from MEXT in Tokyo, at mid-February. Therefore, I suppose we will have to wait until then to know our scholarship results. Don't worry.

A little bit of bad news. According to our friend Charles Barkley, MEXT will be lowering the monthly stipend for MEXT scholarship students a little bit. You can get more details from the following thread:

Can I join the fun?

Just found this board and this thread.

I was also selected for the research student scholarship starting in April. If all goes well, I am going to Kyodai and will be at the linguistics department. As with everyone, final confirmation only in mid-February... (though Kyoto is the only university I have an acceptance letter from and I already filled dorm request forms sent by my advisor)

Either the end of next week, or around the beginning of the following week... I think that is when results should be coming in.

Just received an email from Waseda University this morning regarding lodging. Looks like there is a high possibility that I am going to Waseda.

something about the reduction of scholarship to 155k yen..

I think the reduction is same as the 160k yen b4 right cuz now yen strengthening then yen have more buying power... so things shud b cheaper over there compared to last time...then the 155k yen now i ssame as 160k yen last time? can think like dat?

yen appreciation doesn't affect your spending power in japan. Dollar to dollar it's still the same. But if you send the same amount of yen back home to malaysia and convert it to Ringgit, then it'll translate to much more than before.
Hence when yen is high, save up and send it home. =)
