I've a question (specially for those who have already experienced the interview stage of the scholarship application, but any thought about this is welcome ☝). It's a silly and probably stereotyped question, but I'm gonna ask anyway:
How do people dress for the inteview ?
I mean, it's not a job interview but almost, and it's at an embassy so it's kinda formal, but not much... Plus, it's summer. I know, some choices are excluded by commonsense but I'm wondering, what did/would you guys wear that day? And in case you had already experienced it, what did the rest of the people wear?
And one more question,
how many days in advance were you called to the interview?

Having received the scholarship once as an undergrad, an having been received the embassy recommendation the second time (fingers crossed), both times I wore a suit and tie.

In the most recent case, I was a bit older than the other applicants, and I wore my best because I knew it would be subconsciously expected of me, having been out of college and in the work force a while.

Additionally:

1. I wanted to emphasize the fact that I had more experience than the others who were just graduating.

2. I wanted to show the interviewers that I was very serious about the scholarship.

I know that I got the scholarship the first time way back when because I was by far the most presentable... two of the girls that were in line were dressed shabbily, and the guy was wearing normal clothes.

Remember, the interview is about making a good impression. Your clothing says a lot about how serious you are about receiving the scholarship. It won't make up for a weak application, but it will grease the wheels in your favor when it's down to you and someone else.

And remember, being comfortable and pleasant is marginally more important than appearance.

Last but not least, I was notified of the interview about ten days in advance.

Thanks for sharing your experience, I find it quite illuminating!

I guess it's about time for me to get some more formal clothes anyway. I was focused on not drawing attention to me, not falling out of place... but after a second thought I think it's important to draw attention to oneself...in the 'good' way. 'If nobody knows you, nobody calls you' is what they say, right? So if an applicant has not made any impression (neither good nor bad) on the committee , his/her chances drop down. Good thing to keep in mind.
