Hi,

Iツ´m doing a project for Uni and would need to know where you can buy mobile phones in Japan:

outlet stores run by operators?
retailers?
Department stores?

Thanks a lot!

It might be quicker to list the places you can not buy mobile phones in Japan.

All of the places you mention, and more, have them.

Convenience stores usually carry the prepaid models, for example. Practically any electronics shop has them. Many car specialty shops have them. I've seen a mobile phone corner in a combination video rental and bookstore place. The strangest place I have seen them is at a forklift dealer.

At a household-electric-appliances store, a specialty store, and a department store, you can buy a cellular phone for 1 yen.

All that matters is a running cost.

It is important to choose what you need about service of various kinds of functions which a telephone company performs.

I felt like saying, "I'm not joking about the forklift dealer!"

But that's one of those things that's so odd, you just know it couldn't be made up.
