As there is a foreigner doing something like this, I think that it is appropriate correspondence for a convenience store, but the Japanese does not seem to be protected in Japan.

• The video which took a state to abuse a staff for the age confirmation that a male customer thought to be from a foreign country at a store of convenience store chain "Seven-Eleven" is demanded from by sale of a cigarette and the liquor saying "it is a stupid rule" is taken up on Twitter and causes controversy.

In the minor smoking prohibitive law, it is prohibited like liquor that I sell a cigarette to a minor while knowing it being a smoking purpose, and measures such as the age confirmation at the time of the sale are required. When I neglect age confirmation as well as the sale to a minor, unlike sale of the liquor, the fine that is less than 500,000 yen may be inflicted.

Japanese staff must always follow "stupid rules" or they may lose their job. Things like age verification can be a bigger problem. In the US I did an age verification check job where I bought stuff (with company money) to ensure they checked my age they would get in trouble if they didn't and that is in "non robot" bendy US.

One stupid foreigner does not mean do not sell to all foreigners though. I have seen crazy obatarians or ojisan abusing staff too. A guy like that could use a nice chat with the police though. I am glad they posted that video to the internet.

Even today in the US the few times I buy alcohol the stores do card me and I have greying hair lol. They can lose their liquor license if they don't. So it's not just Japan that has rules to check ages.

I'm over 70* and at the combini when I buy a beer, the register knows it's alcohol and I still need to tap the screen.

maybe he refuses to buy from vending machines lol. Really though people can get fired for not following the rules (in US too) why should anyone risk their job just because some crazy guy doesn't want to follow very simple rules.
