Here in Cambodia, we dont have any info from embassy yet. Anyways, one of my facebook friend from Brazil just post in facebook that he already got informed from the embassy yesterday. You may check with your friends there.
That's weird. Well, I guess it's just a matter of waiting until monday, since none of the other people I'm in touch with told me anything. Thanks for the heads up, anyway.

Hi Asanoki, I thought you were rejected. Anyway, I will be in a dorm room in Sendai, but still do not know whether it is in the international or sanjyo residence.
have you contacted your prof about international house?
my prof told me that I got a room at International House
I will be at international house (the name is Hiroshima international house)
Ikenoue is the other dorm.
Hello guys, have just received an e-mail from the embassy informing me in advance that I have passed the secondary screening =) For those who are still waiting, I hope the results come soon! Feb is coming to an end and results should be out anytime.
Am still waiting for documents from the university I applied to though. Nothing so far.. so am quite anxious that we'll all have to do last minute preparations >_<

Nothing here yet. Has anyone from Europe received the notification?
Hey guys, final result just came for me today! Unfortunately, I did not make it. Though everything went smoothly so far (including me obtaining two letters of acceptance - one from Kobe U. and another form Nagoya U.), I was told that my name was not in the final result list. They adviced me to try again this year, and that's what I'm going to do, hehe.

Were you notified of passing the secondary screening in December?
I'd like to know if any of those notified in December received a negative reply now. It would mean that there was yet another budget cut. >_<

btw no news over here, none of the mext students have been contacted in my country since december.
Well, in December the consulate did request me an update in some of my documents, so I sent them rightaway. I presumed that they wouldn't request if I hadn't passed all the screenings to date. Also, in January my academic advisor answered me an e-mail, in which he said he expected my arrival in April. I guess everyone would presume everything was alright. (or did I presume too much?)
However, I soon came do discover that some of this forum users who were also going to Kobe University (my first choice in the form ranking), had been contacted about the dorms, which I didn't. Then I found reasons to worry.
If anyone should ask about the reason I was not picked, I wouldn't know what to say, really. But the consulate employee did mention about the cut in the MEXT's budget, though I'm certainly not aware of the details or of the criteria they used to exclude pre-approved applicants.

Today I got an email from the Polish embassy saying I'm in. I've worked hard to get this scholarship, but I feel slightly numb right now, perhaps a bit PTSD'ed by the whole budget cut affair. Anyway, two other people I know, who have, like me, passed the December screening and been contacted about accommodation, are also in. So I see little reason to fear there's been a second cut. Also, the news should be out soon in other European countries.

Man, that sucks big time. Really. From your post I assume you haven't been regularly updated about the qualification process, meaning they haven't informed you about the budget cut (I was informed at the beginning of November) and whether you have been spared by it (the news was out in Poland at the beginning of December). If so, perhaps they're clumsy with their paperwork and asked you for documents they had no need for (in Poland, December was the final deadline to deliver a graduation certificate for those who passed the second screening) and your academic advisor was misinformed as well, but wanted to sound reassuring? Not that it changes much, but it might be an explanation for what actually happened.
