I, for one, am very glad to hear this.Yes it is 60 min exam, but not 20 texts, it has grammar, kanji and very long texts.
Flidar: I doubt it will help to get two supervisors from one university...
After all if you are not placed at Tokyo university it will be for different reasons than who is supervising you: (Tokyo (university) will be 'overbooked' like every year, so if you're unlucky they might change you someplace else)
Furthermore, the professors might be surprised and offended if you in the end have to choose between one of them.
My current supervisor waited almost two weeks before replying to my e-mail.
If you have a certain "yes" from a professor and they've sent you a preliminary letter of acceptance, MEXT can't move you to another place. By default, MEXT asks the university to accept you and it's up to them to decide. But if you are, for example, the only research student of a certain professor, I can't see why they'd turn you down.
Or at least that's how I see things.
You're pretty much saying the same things. Even though the professor says he'll take you on with the letter of acceptance, you still have to wait for the university itself to say that they'll officially accept you as a student. If it's overbooked, as Scalemx mentioned sometimes happens, the university might deny you, and then MEXT has to find another place for you. It doesn't happen often, as far as I know, but it can happen.
I just had the interview today. Don't think I did well. They asked almost nothing about my project, but a lot about why I'm fascinated by Japan and how and when this fascination started. I couldn't answer those questions... it's just like that!
Well, now I have to wait till next week. But I don't think I will be nominated.
I just wanna let you know guys that I got the MEXT Scholarship through university recommendation.
I'll start school this October 2010 (quite a short time to prepare really).
I know this thread is for MEXT 2011 and I am accepted in MEXT 2010 but I have some posts here and the discussions here were really helpful.
Good luck to all of us.
Congratulations!Happy for You!
Do you pass an interview when getting an acceptance through university recommendation? if yes! Please tell me about it! Or if You know anything about the interview please tell me how to prepare! Thank You!!

Wow, Todai. That's great man, really great news from you!I'll study at Todai (University of Tokyo).
But I still have to contact a professor (or the professor has yet to contact me). The process is quite different in the graduate program I chose.

Hi, damas17^^Or if You know anything about the interview please tell me how to prepare! Thank You!!
Congrats Budz!
How did the university recommendation process work?
I have two professors now who support me and I think they would recommend me if I asked. Is it a certain thing if you have professors who support you or do other people have to approve?
Does anyone know if all universities are capable of accepting MEXT students? One professor is at Osaka University and another is at Azabu University. The guy at Azabu is a much better fit for me, but it's kind of a small (I think private) college, so I don't even know if it's an option, or how to find this stuff out.
