MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2010: General Discussions.

Today I went to the embassy and handed in the forms and all the other papers.
Guess what. When I was in the subway on my way back to work I realized I haven´t signed ANY of the forms.

I want to kill myself.
 
Hi Everyone
Congratulations on getting the interview call. I also got shortlisted for the exam and interview, will be having it on 1st July.
Here in India we have to first submit an preliminary application for as prescribed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. If you get shortlisted you again have to submit all the applications and transcript in format as prescribed by the MEXT, Japan.
Can anybody here gave the Japanese exam, is it divided in 3 parts [Paper A (easy), Paper B (intermediate), Paper C (toughest)] to be given in 3 hours or only 1 part of one hour. Were there any Kanjis to be written. How many dokkais were there.
In English exam, was the notorious Error detection part there.
I have applied for the Japanese language and literature. One more thing is passing in both Japanese and English paper is required or pass marks in only one language is considered.
I am really feeling nervous.

Is there anyone who can give us some clues on what to study for the Japanese exam of this year's monbusho scholarship. In what aspect do we need to focus? (this request goes to those who have already taken the exam). Thanks in advance!
 
I've already asked about the topic of the readings, just to focus on a certain vocabulary.
I'm ok with those who are against the idea, but if there is someone who want to share it privately via pm I would really appreciate it.
 
agree with ykk. I think nothing's wrong with that as long as you don't specify the questions. if someone is willing to help us please pm us or reply to this thread so that others would be able to read it too.

I am too from India, I think for Japanese Literature etc you will need to do well in Japanese language exam. Though the advertisement tells that we need to perform well in one of the exams either japaense or english. Lastly I think there will be two exams, one is the English one for 1 hour and one is the Japanese one for 1 hour. It was also mentioned in the notice for qualifying the prelimary screening.

I believe it's going to be just one exam like last year BUT It has been said in this forum that the format has changed... soooo... not sure about how is it going to be this time. ☝

Both English and Japanese tests format are a little different from the previous years. The error detection past has been taken off. The Japanese test is now combined into 1 paper.

There's no need to be worried. Have faith in yourself!

Thank you very much for replying. Actually I was a little bit confused as the official advertisement for the MEXT scholarship stated that the Japanese exam will be of 3 hours and the notification of shortlisting stated that it will of 1 hour.
I am a bit relieved to hear that it is of one hour as it was last year.
Just wanted to confirm whether there was any kanji to be written. Thanks in advance.

I am having my interview next tuesday and I am PANICKING!!! :O I want to get the scholarship sooo much! But I am a bit confused with all the Research thing. I have no plan, no design, just some ideas... In my application I have only written about my interests and what I would like to do, but nothing concearning the research itself. For some reason I thought that I will have to join some research group I choose, not to conduct my own research...
This research scholarship does not give any dergee or anything... Can somebody explain please, what exactly do I have to do as a Research student?!? Bit late question, I know, but I have submitted my application in such a rush, didn't even have a chance to think it all through

was reading ppl's posts and it all seems soo serious i was just going with the flow, but now it looks like i have to prepare for the interview, even plan the outfit! not even having a research plan... they have moved my interview from one day to another, I didn't expect that. I am commuting between 2 countries, will be late, tired, sleep deprived coming straight from the airport, which is in a different city than the interview! i need a miracle to pass! ;P
 

What did you write where it says "Your research theme after arrival in Japan"? I believe you can be a bit vague but where says "Study program in Japan: (Describe this in detail and concretelyﾂ―particularly about the ultimate goal of your research in Japan)" they are trying you to be as much detailed as you can ☝

but don't worry! If you still have some days to spare until the interview you'd better think about something more concrete.

It's true that this research scholarship does not give any dergee but if you can take the exam to enter a master's course then you can get one. Am I clear? I'm not feeling very comfortable writting in english today

not to be rude, but I'm surprised you got an interview. My advice, like ykk said, use the time you have to prepare something more concrete. I really don't think having "just some idea" would please the judging panel very well...

As a research student, you basically study Japanese and conduct research, whether it's your own or as part of a research group. Most recipients also use this time to attempt to enter the masters course; studying for entrance exam, make a good impression, etc.
 
That is interesting... But one thing these threads have shown is how wildly different the consulates carry out the process. Perhaps the preliminary criteria has more to do with other parts of the application, but at the very least, they probably liked the idea she has.

Or they could be inviting everyone, in which case you might end up being a little uncomfortable....

Anyway, time to prepare...

what's the passing grade for both english and japanese exams?
 
Hahaha DD You were not rude. I will have an interview, but that does not mean I am getting the place, right?
Anyway, that is exactly what I want to clarify. I have found many exciting projects already ongoing, but I don't know if I can join them. What are the rules of this scholarship? :? If I come for an interview and say: I want to join this and that and they ask me: so what if this uni does not want you to join them? Dah... >.< I have loads of ideas and experience in both social and academical situations, many skills too. But haven't decided what I want to do after I graduate yet. Thought I'll take this year to 'find' myself or smthing... Plus I always had to work while studying, would love a chance to dedicate all the time to studies... Eh...
 
Keep in mind you are competing with other applicants. So I think the judges would prefer some one who has a concrete plan more than some one who doesn't.

Yes, they will most likely question your plan. Maybe something like, "What efforts have you made so far to join this or that."

I would suggest you look into those projects and maybe try to email the professor. Explain your situation as a MEXT scholarship applicant and maybe send him/her your MEXT application. If you can get accepted by the professor before the interview, I think it would be a big advantage. And you will have a research project to talk about at the interview.

I called the embassy before heading there and the lady told me that it is necessary to go just to sign the forms, in the case I get selected they will make a revision of all the documents and I'd sign them wherever the signature is missing

I'm glad they are so nice
