Sheesh, I'm glad I wrote to my embassy! Apparently, they tried to send me notification that I've been provisionally accepted, but they misspelled my mail address. I'm in! Woohoo!

First thank you for your wishes and second, I wish the same for you as well . My subject is information technology and the universities to that I applied were

1. Univ. of Tokyo
2. Kyoto Univ.

and finally Akemashite Omedeto Gozzaimasu minna-san

I had also given first preference to University of Tokyo. and next to Toyo University.
My area is Biotechnology. Will they accept for Univ. of Tokyo?

I dont know if they will place me in Todai, however signs are there that they may place me in Todai. For your acceptance in todai, it is contingent on the fact that you got a letter of acceptance from someone in Todai, you put Todai as the first choice in your attachment form and there are places available for Mext to put you there. I got a LoA and put Todai as my first choice. Lastly I got a mail from todai asking for confirmation sometime back... did you receive any communication from them? Finally, nothing is impossible for MEXT when it comes to placement of students, they can even force a univ to accept you , even if you never got a LoA from them, this however is a bit rare. What actually happens mostly is that too many people ask for universities in and around Tokyo region and they are placed in someother univ at times by the MEXT.

I got LoA from TODAI and I had submitted along with the attachment form. After that I didnt receive any mail from university side.I am bit of panic about my placement. I think Embassy has sent Provisional acceptance letters to all members nominated by MHRD/Indian subject experts. Let us we will be going Japan shortly.

first congrate to every one who got accepted. must be a very special Christmas and New Year gift
here, in my Laos, last time i contact with the embassy, they siad they will contact us again on February. but waiting is surly killing me I am thinking should i write to the embassy and ask about the result or not, since i have to write the resignation to the organization i'm working with. i want to make sure before doing so

Haha..I was fast asleep all day..

I had 1 missed call in my cell phone from +62213192...Most probably from the embassy at 15.27 pm

I have to call them tomorrow...So, if you please, can you tell me how did they convey the good news ? what did they say ?

Oh..my bad I forgot to say CONGRATS !!!!

Looks like they started with people whose name started with 'A' xDD. Cause I haven't got a call yet, although Dalmatian-senpai already asked about my status, lol.

Well, they say Congratulation !!! you are granted the scholarship, but the University placement is not finalized yet. However, the lady from the Embassy said that we need not to worry because we are already officially granted the scholarship. The detail information will be informed later possibly by email. I was also asked whether I'd like to decline or continue taking the scholarship..

Well I got an interesting email today.

Dear (uranussama),

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to let you know that you are still approved as an alternate candidate for MEXT. Should an accepted candidate back down, you will be upgraded and offered the position. You will remain an alternate until June of this year. Should you wish to be removed from the alternate list, please let me know at your earliest convenience. If you wish to remain on the alternate list for now, but need to back down for some reason between now and June, that is fine as well. Just let me know.

So whoever sent me that email last week mustve made a pretty big mistake. I knew it was too good to be true.
 
Uranussama, yes, this is totally different from the e-mail last time. :sorry:

However being an alternate in such a big country, does give you a better chance than an alternate candidate from a small country.

My embassy still hasn't contacted me and I e-mailed the responsible person already longer than a week ago.
 
At last..early in the morning embassy called me (again) before I had the chance to call them..

I'm in !!! and yes dalmatian was right, they ask whether I want to continue the process or not, which I had no second thought in answering those question.

Hope to hear more good news in this forum..

hey guys! I think im new here in this thread. I just want to know those people who were accepted and are going to Osaka University. I was also selected as one of the recipients of the scholarship. I chose Handai as my first choice. This is the email I received yesterday.

Dear scjp:

We have recently received a communication from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) regarding the Japanese Government Scholarships and we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as one of the recipients of the 2010 Research Scholarship. MEXT is now in the process of communicating with Japanese Universities for the final acceptance. The confirmation of your placement will be released not later than February 2010 for those who requested to depart in April; August 2010 for those who chose to depart in October.

Please be informed, however, that especially for those without the acceptance letter, there still is a possibility that a Japanese university cannot accommodate you as their student which results in the cancellation of the scholarship. Also, as much as taking the recipient's request into consideration, there will be cases wherein MEXT will secure the placement of a recipient in a National University rather than a Private University even if the first preference is the latter, due to budgetary constraints. After the appointment to the respective universities has been finalized, no objection shall be considered in reference to the university placement.

For those guys who are still waiting for the notification, just hang in there. The good news is coming soon.

I'm less worried now I guess.

I was so upset, the way that first email was worded really made it sound like I was going. A mistake on their parts and a cruel twist of fate I suppose. *sigh* Let's be real, how often do people back down?

Guess I'll try again this year. sigh. Third time's the charm?
