MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2010: General Discussions.

I did that . I am currently working in Singapore and I am an Indonesian citizen. I think there's no problem as long as you don't mind travel back and forth to Malaysia to attend the test and interview.

I know Keio only limited us to choose them as the only universities to apply.

But for others, did you guys only apply to one universities ? I filled all the three option which are :
- Waseda
- tsukuba
- Shizudai

as usual fingers crossed ^^ actually it had been crossed since...I don't know ? May ?
 
My LoA was from Gifu daigaku. Anyone else interested in Gifu?

hi all of you , i am new to this forum , can any one tell me which are the best universities to do a masters in computer science from , in JAPAN, i have just completed my bachelors in computer science and have got decent academics and extra curriculums, can any one please suggest me which are the bestuniversities , can also reply at bharatsriv(at the rate of)gmail(dot) com

I think a good start would be to firstly decide what you would LOVE to research on, then choose a proffessor (not neccessarily a university) that is good on that specific research topic. If you are lucky prospective professors may refer you to other professors in their field of research from other universities (this happened to me). It is also possible to compare CVs of various professors if you search hard enough, and eventually come up with the best professor for your topic.

I wish I would know some people who were going to study in department of economics and management...

Some people in the embassy told me that getting LOA from the OSAKA university is so hard and do not count on that but it was the first university that I could get the LOA from and now TOHOKU is negotiating for LOA too...☝

by the way are you people studying Japanese now ? or you just want to learn it when you get there ?:?
 
Well, even though I am going to OSIPP, my field is economics so i think theres a posibility we may have some classes together.

The interview went just fine! I was very satisfied when they called me the next day to inform me that I've passed it. Actually I was jumping up and down out of pure happiness!
Right now I'm waitng for an answer from Tokyo geidai. Musashino and Tama turned me down. People from the Japanese Embassy are very kind and they explained me that there shouldn't be any problem if geidai turns me down, because MEXT(I guess) will search for the university which would accept me.
Right now I don't want to worry to much because I've done all that could, and now I'll just have to wait and see what's going to happen.
 
Today I got the LOA from the TOHOKU university too !

and I called the embassy that I have a new LOA. they said it is ok to send it to us and we will post it to japan for MEXT even though the time is passed.

I think all the rush they put into is a kind of motivation and there is no specific deadline for handing the LOA !

anyway if you do not get the LOA from a specific University then you gonna get into a university that MEXT finds for you which means that might be a small one in a small city that nobody CAN speak English. So move dust and try being accepted by yourself good luck

Anyway, I had a random question. Can I leave my country til I wait for a final response from MEXT?

I was thinking of visiting my grandparents on an extended trip (several months).

What do you guys think?

My dear friend, I think you can go out of your country freely, but if you plan to fly to Japan from any other country( not your own country ), they will not accept the flight expense.

I also wanted to go out of country for TESOL degree before I go to japan and the embassy told me to come back before April, the date we are supposed to fly to japan.

The final announcement is in late February or March, but keep in mind any change in their plan is possible.
I suggest you ask the cultural section of japan embassy after all

Guys do you know if TOHOKU university has an entrance exam for PhD students ?
They only issue that if I pass the MEXT final screening then they should congratulate me !
Does this mean this University has no entrance exam ?

I am pretty sure about OSAKA that is mandatory to take the entrance exam.
What do you think ?

Hello everyone

I am a newbie on the forum and this thread

It was very interesting to read trough all this thread because I remembered all the feelings and situations that every applicant has to go trough the application process.

I've applied for the MEXT scholarship here in Bolivia and got selected by my local Jpn embassy. I am currently on the Economics - Finance field; and want to get a Masters in Economics in Jpn.

I've also got three letters of acceptance from Kobe University (Graduate School of Intl Cooperation Studies), Hitotsubashi University (Graduate School of Economics) and Keio University (Graduate School of Economics).

The point is that I have no previous knowledge of Japanese, that's why I want to get into GSICS at Kobe (their program is taught in English), I've found out that programs at Keio and Hit-u are Japanese only.

My big question comes concerning the final steps for the MEXT scholarship; since I've already submitted my LoA from the three universities mentioned above what are the next steps? (at least what were you told by your embassies/ universities?, what has been your personal experience guys?)

I was told that all my documents will be send to Japan to the Ministry of Education Culture and Sports so the FINALLY decide (along the universities that accepted me) if I got (or not :?) the scholarship; they've also told me that these final results will be communicated on late February/ early March.

My big problem is that I am currently working on a very good place, which has given me a lot of opportunities and the payment is good (as you can imagine I am very concerned about quitting my job) my point is, I want to be 120% sure that I got the scholarship so I can quit. Has anyone been selected, got the LoA but not finally given the scholarship by the Min of Education? please if you can share your experiences because I am on a big decisions time

If you browse around the threads in this forum, you will find some who asked this question and I believe that most of us (applicants) eager to know this answer as well, at least I do.

As far as I know, nobody yet to answer those question with certain. My summary is for developed country, such as UK or US, which had generally fewer applicants who passed the embassy selection will most likely got the scholarship (their embassy sometimes confirm this fact) as for developing country, such as my country, usually don't have those certainty, generally because our number is far higher than those of the developed one.

I did read once that the embassy in Malaysia (I forgot is it... Ms.Yin ?) confirm that usually the people they recommended end up getting the scholarship (Malaysian.. please confirm this).

Some also said that MEXT already give the quota to each country so as long as your embassy recommend people under that quota, we don't have to worry, then again this info only can be confirmed by the embassy.

Anyway, usually the answer to this question is no one knows for sure or can't give you the 120 % sure because in the end MEXT has the final decision and also as far as I know that no one here yet to confirm that he/she already got the LoA and failed to get the scholarship, beside those who are in the substitute position.

By the way, is it a problem if you quit your job when it's already confirmed that you get the scholarship ? Is Feb/March will be a problem to you ? Do your early notice for your resign needs more than a Month ? Sorry for all the question, just curious :?

The problem is that I need to capacitate another person to stay in my place before I leave and this procedure is not a month long is kinda longer, I also have to make some procedures to disable myself from the trading system and such things. I also want to be very conscious about quitting and not doing it in a single week.

As you know Bolivia is also a developing country so I guess we are in the same situation.

In another set of comments, I wanted to ask all of you guys about budgeting...
I've been told by my local Jpn embassy that if I actually got to Jpn I'll be needing around US$ 2000 until all the procedures are set for me to receive the monthly stipend given by MEXT (since I have to open an account on a Japanese financial institution and the spending is approved by MEXT) What has been your experience about it guys? (I am aware that this amount depends a lot on what city/university you are (will be) enrolled) however I would be thankful if you can comment some experiences regarding this issue
