Hello All,
If you've just applied to the MEXT scholarhips for postgraduate programs for the 2010 intake, please drop in here to say hello. In particular, we can use this thread to keep track of where everyone is in the process and post updates about correspondences with the Embassy.

Today, 7th of April, is the closing date for Malaysian applicants. I don't believe that they provide feedback on whether or not they received your application but if you get called for the written test, please post updates here. Good luck to all!

Hello, I apply for Aerospace research...nice to meet u all!

Hello, let me join you. first, nice to meet you all.
I still have little bit less than one month before the application deadline, so we will see. Anyway, good luck to everyone!! I hope we would make it to Japan

You live in London Coco? Where did you find that out? I haven't been able to find out anything about application forms or deadlines for the UK.

Also for anyone that does know the procedure in the UK, I'm thinking of going on holiday in October this year, will that clash with anything to do with the application process?

Hey BlueCheese,
first, sorry to completely mislead you.
Well, yes I live in England and I go to uni here, but I have no UK nationality, so I am not applying through the Japanese embassy in London, so sorry, I really don't know about the deadline for UK. I think they should reveal the deadline after Easter or you can alternatively e-mail them and they might tell you.
Next, I think you should be fine going on vacation in October, but better e-mail them as well, but as much I am aware the application process should be over by August(the latest) and then you wait for the response from MEXT, but I don't guarantee this information.
good luck

Ah ok cheers, I was worried for a minute there that I was way behing schedule in my application.

Where is everyone hoping to go? I have set my sights on Nagoya University, but of course I know that getting in alone is a bit of a long shot, let alone being able to go where I want.

bluecheese,
here in malaysia, they updated the embassy homepage in a timely manner with announcements of the scholarship. you might want to monitor the uk homepage for the latest news.

no news yet, but it's only been two weeks. i imagine they're still sorting through the pile. since the exam is on 5/31, i wouldn't start worrying till much later.

Haha think im over anxious..thanx for the reply...hope to hear from them soon..

Hi all, I'm this year's scholar n this is my 3rd week in Osaka, japan. It's good for u guys to start this new thread early. However, just try not to get too anxious yet at this point as u guys still have 300 days to go. The worst part is from Oct-Feb. I basically assume that I won't get it until passing the interview. =) don't worry , if u fill the forms correctly n ur academic results r ok, u should at least get to attend the test. gambatte kudasai.

Hello everyone,I'm sending my papers this monday, deadline is end of may here.I'm finishing uni this year and probably getting a publication too,but unfortunately too late to get it in the scholarship application. They also told me interview and tests will be conducted around 10-15 June and I will be having uni exams then.I hope I can make it.

Question:How long does it take to get cofirmation that you got accepted (I mean after you've done the interview and english/japanese tests)?

approx 1 year
the final final results + official letter + air ticket will be announced to you around February should you be successful.

Hello People,

I am also one of this year's applicants to the scholarship. I must have been lucky so far, or its just me having a quite...unique experience in this. I have already obtained 3 okays from 3 different universities. They're not top ranked though, but I am surprised that almost all of my emails were replied to, in a period of less than 2 weeks! Interestingly enough, I turned down an acceptance from a top national university because of the professor's attitude problems. This might get interesting, but I ain't gonna jinx myself yet. Details later, once I know my final status on the application (ie: next year. Worry not, I WILL share my experience )

Good luck to all and do your best!

Hello All
I am an applicant for the MEXT scholarship 2010 and a final year student at Medical Uni....
I conducted with the embassy and they explained the application procedure, but when I asked about research plan they told that "it is up to you, there is not limit in the number of words or sheets".

My question is, "Is there any accepted structure for the research plan?"

Thanks in advance

not that I know of. Just try to be as detailed as possible, as mentioned in the application. I think they want to know that you have an in depth knowledge of the professor's research to ensure a match, even if you won't end up exactly carrying out your proposed research.

@conanf:

Are you applying for admissions in 2010?
What schedule do you operate on in the US? Have you already taken the English exam (May 31st here) and gone through the embassy interviews (sometime in July here)?

Over here in Malaysia, we're told not to contact professors until after confirmation of scholarship receipt so it looks like you guys are WAYY ahead of us. No wonder there's always news of people here not getting replies because the spots have all filled up!

Thank you...
So... I should conduct with a professor who are or were carrying out the research and I will copy some of his works. Am I right?
But, you know, I am a student at Medical Uni and all of my professors' researches are on clinical subjects. I am afraid that I will not be able to carry out such kind of research untill I get the permission of MEXT. Another point is that I don't think that they will let me to carry out my research on
patients.

Is it ok if I will make a new research plan which was not done here in my country?
Another question is which one is easier to be accepted; Research student or Master's degree student?
Thank you in advance

i'm just as clueless as you are since i'm also an applicant this round. you might want to start a new thread on this to highlight your questions to the scholarship alums.

May i know who told you this? I applied last year and there were no such restrictions then. In fact, we were encouraged to get in touch with the professors early on. During my interview i was asked on whether i did contact the professors and when i told them no, they asked why not.

There are obvious advantages to contacting professors early. If the person that told you this comes from the Japanese embassy in Malaysia or MEXT, then i guess things have changed a bit but if you got it from someone else, perhaps it would be a good idea to check with the embassy.

hello @clockworkorange:
Actually a lady at the embassy told me this, or at least that was what i heard. Maybe she meant that i shouldn't *apply* until i received confirmation. I will have to check again if that is the case.

Hi trystero,

Do check. things might have changed this year. last year, we had abt a month after the interview to secure letters of acceptance (LoA) from universities. I don't see how one can secure a letter if one doesn't get in touch with the professor until after scholarship confirmation.

Then we had to send our LoAs to the embassy so that they could be sent to MEXT who then selects the scholars.

Again, they might have changed things this year but yeah, do check.

Hello thetrystero:

I just sent my application to the nearest consulate. They told me that filling the application attachment (the form which you fill for your choice of universities) is not neccessary at this stage, so I didn't fill it out yet. They also informed me that I shouldn't contact professors at this stage, however I went against that and made contact already. It shouldn't be a problem. The only downside of doing things this way is that if you didn't pass the exam/interview phase, you'll have to do the humbling act of appologizing to the professors and letting them know of your application results.

I was just surprised that I got quick replies because most people complained about Japanese professors ignoring or not responding to their emails, but I count myself lucky (so far )

hi all. Im a new here. Are there anyone, who sit monbukagakusho exam in malaysia. I also sit. I have last years math exam problems. i'm a student
