MEXT Japanese Studies Scholarship 2011 - Info?

Hey guys!
It's soooo frustrating waiting around knowing it's not far off! The other guy in my class who went to the embassy heard yesterday that he was successful, so I'm not sure how good that is for my chances, but I'm glad he got it at least! =) I'm just sitting with my fingers crossed! Here's hoping that the universities I chose are just particularly slow at deciding >.>
Congrats by the way, aisla and nevermore, and well done SaMa on getting the Keio scholarship - very impressive! You may be in the same classes as someone from my class, so perhaps there'll be at least one other person from home! =)

@Danscomb: Thanks! I hope we'll all get some news next week >_< At least now it's weekend and I'll unglue myself from the phone a little.

By the way, anyone knows when are we supposed to be in Japan if we get accepted? I read something about October, but my teacher told me we'll go through a training program at first ( about daily stuff that you can encounter there ), and I'm not sure if the training is before school starts or during school.
 
Hello everyone and congratulations to all who received the information that they've got in.

Polish embassy informed me yesterday that I've been accepted but they will send the rest of the details later (probably in a week to month time) and I'm a bit worried about where will I be placed. I've chosen Tokyo, Osaka and Kanazawa plus the option to put me anywhere if I don't get into any of those three.
But screw that, I'm so happy~

Beginning of October. At least that's what they've told me.
 
Yaaay, I just received a confirmation email from Yamagata University! Lots of paperwork awaits. T__T I'm very confused and have no idea how to proceed from here, but it's okay. I'm going to Japan!
 
So you got accepted by the first university on your list, right? Waaah, congratulations!

Did they tell you any info about when school starts/when do you have to be there?
 
Yup, Yamagata was my first choice, though I have since started to waver and think that maybe some other prefecture would have been better, especially after what happened in the Tohoku area. But now after some heavy picture-viewing I'm starting to get back in the Yamagata mode and am ready to be surrounded by the mountains!

I haven't received any type of information as of yet, only a .doc file where I'm supposed to answer a pile of questions concerning my motivations and study plans and how studying at Yamagata University will benefit me in the future. So it's basically like the application form all over again, only with more questions this time. Waa. I don't know whether the survey is customary only to YU or if all MEXT students receive a similar one from their university of choice. At least the person in charge of international students seemed very helpful and friendly, and I assume more information will follow once I finish the survey.

Found out on Friday that unfortunately I didn't get it =( Sad times, but it's ok as I'll still be going to Doshisha on my Uni's exchange program forthe year =) Just means I'll have to pay for it myself!!! Hope you all get your first choices!
 
@Danscomb: At least it's good you have the possibility to go if you pay yourself...but waiting and hoping for so many months sucks so badly *sigh*

Is there anyone else who still didn't get an answer? I see the thread has pretty much died...am I the only one who's still waiting? I'm starting to lose my hope day by day, heh...

Well, I know there's a possibility to get the answer even at the end of August, but I don't understand why so many people started being called at the same time, and there's still no movement in my country.
 
Well, the results came around the middle of August last year. Plus, you might get the answer when they start sending which Universities people got accepted to.

I'm still waiting for that one, but when I phoned the embassy, they said that I got in for sure so there's no need to worry.
 
FINALLY some movement!!! I got an e-mail from Tokyo Gakugei University about the dorm, and lots of details about my arrival in Japan. Still haven't heard anything from the embassy, but if that university sent me an e-mail, it means I'm accepted I guess!? Although I really don't understand why I get notification about the dorm before finding out if I got accepted or not, but at least it's better than nothing.

Woaaah I'm so overwhelmed and confused right now, I don't know what to think/do.
 
Congratulations! It's really unfair that you had to wait this long but I guess that's bureaucracy for you.

Has everyone already received information about their arrival in Japan, the dorm etc? I'm still waiting for mine and I'm starting to get nervous. I did receive an email from Yamagata suggesting that I arrive on September 22. I thought it was quite early as people usually seem to go in early October. The next day I received yet another email, this time saying that I need to discuss my the time and date of arrival with the embassy. So I emailed the embassy, and they said they're still waiting for information from Japan which should reach them in a week or so. That was almost two weeks ago, and I still haven't heard back! I already got a visa application form and a congratulatory message in the mail, but I can't apply for a visa if I don't even know when I'm going or can I!? I will make a point of visiting the embassy the first thing on Monday, but my poor soul can't relax over the weekend because I just keep stressing over all this red tape.
 
I got a call from the embassy today!! They confirmed I got accepted. I can't believe I finally have an answer after waiting for so many months!
 
@aisla: I understand you so well...at least are those from your embassy cooperative? Hah, I'm always afraid to call the embassy in my country, I always finish the conversation feeling like I've done something very wrong *and wishing not to call them ever again*

But I think it's ok. Your embassy gives you the visa, right? ( at least it's like that in my country ). So they know how things work and have to solve it somehow. It seems this year there were problems in Japan, judging by so many delays ( probably because of the earthquake, my teacher told me they might take a little more time because of that ). So if the problem comes from them, I'm sure they won't tell you to come to Japan sooner than it's possible.
